The Italian Outdoor Trial and MiniTrial Championship season kicks off in Versilia
The Italian Trial Championship has chosen Massarosa, in the heart of Versilia in the province of Lucca, to open its competitive season. Organized by the Moto Club Versilia Corse, this Tuscan round attracts over a hundred riders from all over Italy and welcomes thousands of motorcycling enthusiasts every year to one of the most technical and fascinating two-wheeled disciplines.
Trial is a motorcycling specialty where speed is not the goal; instead, it is all about balance, precision, and vehicle control. Riders must navigate a series of sections—natural terrain filled with obstacles like rocks, logs, steep drops, and water crossings—without ever putting their feet on the ground. Every dab or fall results in penalties: the winner is the one who accumulates the fewest errors at the end of the required laps. In Massarosa, the track winds through the hilly terrain that provides a natural backdrop for the race.
The Versilia round hosts the full spectrum of the Italian Outdoor Trial Championship, featuring top-tier classes TR1 and TR2, as well as TR3, TR3 125, TR3 Open, and TR4 categories, alongside the women's events. The same day also marks the start of the Italian MiniTrial Championship, reserved for youngsters starting from age 8, divided into MiniTrial A, B, C, Entry, and Open classes: a nursery of talent representing the future of the discipline.
The race takes place over a single day using the Race 1 format, with a course consisting of about ten sections to be repeated over several laps. The public can follow the riders' maneuvers trackside, experiencing the stunts and moments of pure technique up close. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is typical of trial competitions: sporty, family-friendly, and deeply rooted in the local area.
Situated between Lake Massaciuccoli and the hills sloping down to the sea, the Municipality of Massarosa offers an ideal natural setting for this discipline. This stage reinforces the motorcycling tradition of Versilia and Tuscany, a region that has always been fertile ground for motorsports, and represents a highly anticipated event for both professionals and local families.
The 2026 inaugural round took place on Sunday, March 29, in Massarosa, the first of five events on the national calendar. Over a hundred riders tackled a track of 12 sections to be repeated over 2 laps.
In the premier TR1 class, international guest Arnau Farré (Sherco) triumphed with 28 penalties, finishing one point ahead of Matteo Grattarola (Beta) and Francesco Titli (Montesa). Other winners included: Fabio Mazzola (TR2), Matteo Bosis (TR3), Edio Poncia (TR3 125), Graziano Ronca (TR3 Open), and Roberto Anastasi (TR4). In the women's category, Andrea Sofia Rabino took the win. The day also launched the Italian MiniTrial Championship, with 39 youngsters at the start.
Race 1 formula in a single day. Course of 12 sections to be repeated for 2 laps for the Outdoor Trial (classes TR1, TR2, TR3, TR3 125, TR3 Open, TR4, Women). Dedicated configurations for the MiniTrial (categories A, B, C, Entry, Open).
Massarosa is easily accessible by car via the A11/A12 motorway: we recommend the "Massarosa" exit, which is generally less busy than the "Viareggio" exit. By train, the reference stations are Viareggio and Lucca, which are connected to the main Tuscan cities.
Public access to the race sections is free. For riders, paddock space must be booked through the organization.
We recommend comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for natural, unpaved terrain, as well as sun protection for spring days.
