About Ireland Week Rome

As part of Ireland Week, the major celebration of Irish culture in Italy, Rome hosts its own capital spin-off between Villa Borghese and Piazza di Siena. Promoted by the Embassy of Ireland and Tourism Ireland, the Roman program weaves together traditional céilí dances, Gaelic games (GAA), and the 'Green the City' ecological initiative to care for the city park. Two free days, March 13th and 14th, to celebrate the spirit of Ireland in the green heart of the Capital, leading up to St. Patrick's Day.

The Irish week arrives in Rome

Ireland Week is the major event dedicated to Irish culture that every year, around St. Patrick's Day, paints various Italian cities green. Born in Milan on the initiative of Tourism Ireland and now in its fifth year, the festival has progressively expanded, exporting its format to Genoa and Rome as well. In the Capital, the baton passes to the Embassy of Ireland, which signs off on a compact yet dense Roman spin-off, hosted in the green heart of Villa Borghese and the historic setting of Piazza di Siena.

Music, dance, and Gaelic sports

The Roman program tells the story of Ireland through some of its most authentic expressions. It starts with the céilí, an evening of traditional Irish dances open to beginners, a convivial moment where live music and collective steps turn spectators into participants. The following day is dedicated to Gaelic games (GAA): at Piazza di Siena, together with the Rome Hibernia GAA club, you can discover and try out Ireland's national sport, including hurling and Gaelic football, spectacular disciplines still little known to the Italian public.

An Ireland that loves nature

True to the image of a country deeply connected to its landscape, the Roman Ireland Week also dedicates space to environmental commitment with 'Green the City', a volunteer initiative for the cleaning and care of Villa Borghese carried out in collaboration with Retake Roma. The event, meeting at the Casa del Cinema, combines community spirit and attention to urban greenery, in line with the message of sustainability and slow travel that characterizes the tourism promotion of the Emerald Isle.

In the green heart of the Capital

Hosting the Irish week at Villa Borghese, the large historic park in the center of Rome, is no coincidence: the open spaces, tree-lined avenues, and the scenic Piazza di Siena offer the ideal setting for an event that speaks of nature, sport, and sociality. In the Municipality of Rome, capital of the Lazio Region, the Roman spin-off is part of the wider national Ireland Week calendar, which also touches Milan and Genoa this year, confirming the growing Italian interest in the culture and traditions of Ireland.

Towards St. Patrick's Day

Taking place close to March 17th, St. Patrick's Day, the event ideally participates in the Global Greening, the international campaign that illuminates monuments and iconic landmarks around the world in green. A free opportunity accessible to everyone to get closer to the music, dance, sport, and values of contemporary Ireland, just a stone's throw from the center of Rome.

Ireland Week Rome — edition 2026

The 2026 edition brings the Roman spin-off of Ireland Week to Rome, promoted by the Embassy of Ireland together with Tourism Ireland. Between March 13th and 14th, Villa Borghese and Piazza di Siena become the stage for Irish culture: an evening of céilí dances at the Irish College, the GAA Gaelic games open day, and the 'Green the City' environmental initiative. A free program that anticipates St. Patrick's Day in the green heart of the Capital.

Ireland Week Rome 2026

From March 13 to 14, 2026, Ireland Week stops in Rome with its capital spin-off, included in the national calendar that involves Milan and Genoa from March 8 to 17. In the Capital, the organization is handled by the Embassy of Ireland, which offers a compact but representative program, hosted between Villa Borghese, Piazza di Siena, and the Irish College.

The Roman weekend weaves together traditional dance, Gaelic sport, and environmental commitment: from the céilí evening open to beginners to the Gaelic games demonstration with the Rome Hibernia GAA club, up to the 'Green the City' volunteer initiative for the care of the city park, in collaboration with Retake Roma. A free and participatory way to celebrate the spirit of Ireland in Rome, in the Lazio Region, close to St. Patrick's Day.
