About Singing in Tuscany

Every June, Montecatini Terme welcomes amateur choirs and musical groups from across Europe for the International Choral & Music Festival Singing in Tuscany. Four days of open-air concerts in the Art Nouveau setting of the Tettuccio Thermal Baths and Piazza del Popolo, featuring a charming opening torchlight procession, cultural exchanges between choirs, excursions to Florence, Pisa, and Lucca, and a final gala dinner. An event that blends a passion for choral singing with the beauty of Tuscany, in the heart of the Valdinievole region.

An international choral festival in the heart of Tuscany

The International Choral & Music Festival Singing in Tuscany is an international choral event that brings Montecatini Terme, the famous spa town in the Valdinievole area, to life every June. Organized by Destinations Choeurs, the festival gathers amateur choirs and musical groups from various European countries for four days, offering them the opportunity to perform, connect, and sing together in some of Tuscany's most scenic locations.

Venues: between Art Nouveau thermal baths and city squares

The beating heart of the event is the Tettuccio Thermal Baths, considered one of the most beautiful spa facilities in Europe for its elegant travertine facade and nineteenth-century gardens; it is here, in the park's music kiosk, that many of the concerts take place. Evening performances move outdoors to Piazza del Popolo, in front of the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, where locals and visitors can enjoy the guest choirs' performances for free.

The program and the spirit of the event

The festival opens with an evening torchlight procession that departs from the hotels and reaches the thermal park, officially kicking off the event. In the following days, choirs alternate between concert performances and free time, with the option to join guided excursions to Florence, Pisa, and Luccaโ€”masterpieces of art and history just a few kilometers from Montecatini. This is not a competition, but a gathering of diverse choral groups, centered on cultural exchange and conviviality.

The closing ceremony

At the end of the festival, all choirs gather for a convivial dinner at a typical Montecatini restaurant, where participants receive a certificate of participation and a commemorative plaque. Traditionally, the choirs join together to sing a common piece, O Signore, dal tetto natio by Giuseppe Verdi, in a collective choral moment that seals the shared experience.

Montecatini Terme and the Valdinievole

Hosting an international choral festival is perfectly in line with the vocation of Montecatini Terme, a city of Belle ร‰poque elegance that is part of the UNESCO network of Great Spa Towns of Europe. Its location in Tuscany, halfway between Florence and the coast, makes it an ideal base for those wishing to combine a passion for choral music with the discovery of the region's artistic and landscape heritage.
