About InFortezza d'Estate

InFortezza d'Estate is Montalcino's major summer festival in Tuscany. From June 10 to August 25, 2026, it brings the evocative 14th-century Fortress to life with open-air cinema, concerts, theater, literary talks, and family activities. Promoted by the Municipality of Montalcino and the Fondazione Territoriale del Brunello, it unites the many facets of local culture—from jazz and opera to arthouse cinema and chamber music—offering high-quality evenings in the heart of the Brunello wine region.

A summer of culture within the Fortress walls

InFortezza d'Estate is the grand event series that accompanies residents and visitors throughout the summer evenings in Montalcino, nestled in the Sienese hills of Tuscany. From June 10 to August 25, 2026, the iconic 14th-century Fortress—the city's symbol and guardian of the Brunello territory—transforms into an open-air stage hosting cinema, music, theater, literature, and family-friendly events.

The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Montalcino in collaboration with the Fondazione Territoriale del Brunello di Montalcino ETS and numerous local associations, aiming to showcase the city's cultural and social heritage. The Municipality has allocated 50,000 euros in co-funding to support the program, highlighting the event's importance to the community of Montalcino in the Province of Siena.

Many festivals under one banner

The strength of InFortezza d'Estate lies in its variety: it is not a single event, but a mosaic of appointments curated by different organizations, spanning the most beloved genres.

  • Red Line Film Festival — the international film festival that opens the season in June.
  • Montalcinè — open-air cinema evenings under the stars of the Fortress.
  • VedereOltre — literary meetings and dialogues with scholars and authors.
  • Musicisti Nati — the historic charity concert now in its umpteenth edition.
  • Fortezza Sonora — evenings dedicated to live rock music.
  • Jazz & Wine — the prestigious festival combining great music with the excellence of Brunello wine.
  • MusHic et Nunc — a chamber music series featuring young talents of Italian classical music.
  • Theater, activities for children, and the end-of-summer party.

Montalcino and the charm of Brunello

Experiencing InFortezza d'Estate means discovering Montalcino in one of its most beautiful seasons. The town, world-famous for its Brunello, offers a unique setting: from the Fortress ramparts, the view sweeps over the Val d'Orcia and the UNESCO-listed hills. Every evening becomes an opportunity to combine culture, social life, and the extraordinary food and wine identity of the Tuscan territory.

The festival is designed to engage a broad and diverse audience: families, cinema and music enthusiasts, and tourists visiting the heart of Tuscany's wine country. A rich calendar that makes the Fortress the cultural living room of the Montalcino summer.
