Montalcino's cultural summer within the walls of the 14th-century Fortress
InFortezza d'Estate is the grand event series that accompanies residents and visitors throughout the summer evenings in Montalcino, nestled in the Sienese hills of Tuscany. From June 10 to August 25, 2026, the iconic 14th-century Fortress—the city's symbol and guardian of the Brunello territory—transforms into an open-air stage hosting cinema, music, theater, literature, and family-friendly events.
The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Montalcino in collaboration with the Fondazione Territoriale del Brunello di Montalcino ETS and numerous local associations, aiming to showcase the city's cultural and social heritage. The Municipality has allocated 50,000 euros in co-funding to support the program, highlighting the event's importance to the community of Montalcino in the Province of Siena.
The strength of InFortezza d'Estate lies in its variety: it is not a single event, but a mosaic of appointments curated by different organizations, spanning the most beloved genres.
Experiencing InFortezza d'Estate means discovering Montalcino in one of its most beautiful seasons. The town, world-famous for its Brunello, offers a unique setting: from the Fortress ramparts, the view sweeps over the Val d'Orcia and the UNESCO-listed hills. Every evening becomes an opportunity to combine culture, social life, and the extraordinary food and wine identity of the Tuscan territory.
The festival is designed to engage a broad and diverse audience: families, cinema and music enthusiasts, and tourists visiting the heart of Tuscany's wine country. A rich calendar that makes the Fortress the cultural living room of the Montalcino summer.
The 2026 edition of InFortezza d'Estate confirms the winning formula of Montalcino's major summer event series: from June 10 to August 25, the 14th-century Fortress hosts dozens of events curated by the Municipality, the Fondazione Territoriale del Brunello, and local associations. Arthouse cinema, concerts, author talks, and family evenings follow one another for over two months, making the Fortress the beating heart of the city's cultural life.
The detailed program of times and individual artists is updated by the Municipality of Montalcino throughout the season.
Events take place primarily at the Fortress of Montalcino (Piazzale della Fortezza) and in the historic center.
By car: Montalcino can be reached via the SS2 Cassia or the Siena-Grosseto road, taking the Val d'Orcia exit. By train: the nearest station is Buonconvento, connected by bus. Nearest airports: Florence and Pisa.
Some events are free, while others require a ticket or reservation depending on the specific program. We recommend checking the official Municipality of Montalcino program for times and access details.
