The baroque floral carpet of Via Nicolaci, the heart of the Baroque Spring
Every year in mid-May, the scenic Via Corrado Nicolaci in Noto becomes a canvas for an extraordinary work of art made of petals: the Infiorata of Noto is one of Italy's most famous flower festivals and the signature event of spring in the Municipality of Noto, in the province of Syracuse, located in the heart of the baroque Val di Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Against the backdrop of 18th-century facades and the famous masks of Palazzo Nicolaci, artists compose a grand floral carpet that attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year.
The Noto Infiorata began in 1980 through a meeting between floral artists from Genzano di Roma, keepers of a centuries-old tradition, and artists from Noto, who reinterpreted the craft within the context of Sicilian Baroque. Since then, the event has grown into an international attraction: the sloping cobblestones of Via Nicolaci, approximately 122 meters long, host sixteen designs created with petals, seeds, and coffee grounds across a total area of about 700 square meters. Each edition revolves around a different theme, which artists translate into visually striking images.
The Infiorata is the climax of the Baroque Spring, a long calendar of events from April to June that celebrates Noto's monumental and cultural identity. During the festival, the city fills with music, exhibitions, and shows, but the true jewel is the Baroque Parade: a captivating historical pageant featuring 18th-century costumes, town criers, performers, flag-wavers, and musicians, marching through the historic center to recreate the atmosphere of 18th-century noble Noto.
The beauty of the Infiorata lies in its ephemeral nature: the carpet, the result of weeks of preparation, remains intact for only a few days before fading. For this reason, the Noto event is an invitation to live in the moment, immersed in the scents and colors of the Sicilian spring, in one of the most fascinating baroque cities in the Mediterranean. Visiting Noto during the Infiorata means discovering the perfect encounter between floral art, architecture, and folk tradition.
The 47th edition of the Infiorata of Noto, scheduled from May 15 to 19, 2026, chose the theme "Pop Culture Tells Its Story," showcasing the icons, music, and artistic avant-gardes that revolutionized the 20th century. The grand floral carpet on Via Nicolaci, with its sixteen designs, was inspired by Pop Art, 1960s graphic design, and symbolic figures of contemporary culture, including a poster dedicated to Freddie Mercury.
The installation was completed on Friday, May 15, with an official inauguration and a parade from Porta Reale along Via Nicolaci, while the carpet remained open to visitors from Saturday, May 16, until Tuesday, May 19. The actress Margareth Madรจ served as the godmother of the edition.
The entrance ticket to the Infiorata route was 5 euros (reduced 3 euros for school groups). The event was part of the Noto Baroque Spring calendar.
Noto is located in the province of Syracuse, in south-eastern Sicily. By car, it can be reached via the A18/SS115 motorway; the nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa (about 90 km away). The Noto train station is connected to Syracuse and Catania.
Access to the Infiorata route on Via Nicolaci requires a ticket: full price is 5 euros, reduced price is 3 euros for school groups. The carpet can be visited throughout the duration of the event, generally from morning until late evening.
During the Infiorata, the historic center is closed to traffic: it is best to park in the outer areas and walk to Via Nicolaci. We recommend booking accommodation well in advance, as Noto and its surroundings fill up quickly during the event.
