The fantasy imaginary festival between Ficarra and Capo d'Orlando
Infinitamente Piccolo – Fantasy Imaginary Festival is one of the most original cultural events in the Nebrodi area, in the province of Messina. Conceived and directed by Fulvia Toscano and promoted by the Fondazione Famiglia Piccolo di Calanovella, the festival explores the world of myth, fairy tales, and the fantasy imaginary every year, intertwining literature, philosophy, art, and music in a journey that traverses the symbols and figures of collective storytelling.
The event takes place over two days in two symbolic locations of the Tyrrhenian coast of Sicily. The village of Ficarra, one of the most evocative historic centers in the Nebrodi, hosts the meetings at Palazzo Milio, while the final day is held at Villa Piccolo in Capo d'Orlando, the former home of poet Lucio Piccolo and now the headquarters of the Foundation. This connection with the villa-museum makes the festival an immersive experience, where cultural reflection dialogues with the landscape, the gardens, and the literary memory of the sites.
Each edition of the festival revolves around a theme of the fantasy imaginary, explored through multi-voice conversations with university professors, essayists, and writers, as well as stage readings, book presentations, and screenings. In past editions, the festival has investigated figures such as fantastic creatures and sirens, and explored the works of great masters of fantasy literature. The formula combines academic rigor with passionate popularization, appealing to both scholars and curious audiences.
Alongside literary meetings, the festival offers high-level musical moments, including concerts by the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in the gardens of Villa Piccolo, as well as vintage film screenings and exhibitions. A multidisciplinary program that makes Infinitamente Piccolo a reference point for the cultural summer in the Capo d'Orlando and Nebrodi area.
Part of the rich summer calendar of the province of Messina and Sicily, Infinitamente Piccolo enhances the cultural and landscape heritage of Ficarra and Capo d'Orlando, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to discover villages, historic villas, and quality cultural programming in a natural setting of rare beauty between the sea and the mountains.
The sixth edition of Infinitamente Piccolo takes place on June 13 and 14, 2026, directed by Fulvia Toscano, with the theme "Archetypal. Myth, fairy tale, identity", a journey of reflection traversing symbols, narratives, and figures of the collective imagination.
The first day opens at 5:30 PM at Palazzo Milio, in Ficarra, with a session entirely dedicated to the world of Pinocchio: "Collodiana. Pinocchio and the path to self-realization". Speakers include Laura Marchetti (University of Reggio Calabria) with "Pinocchio or about disobedience", essayist Andrea Scarabelli with "Becoming what one is. The enigmas of a piece of wood", and Simonetta Bartolini (Università degli Studi Internazionali di Roma), with the presentation of the volume "Pinocchio svelato" (Bietti Editore) and the screening of the silent film Pinocchio by Giulio Antamoro (1911).
The second day takes place at Villa Piccolo, in Capo d'Orlando, with an afternoon dedicated to the ideal encounter between Lucio Piccolo and William Butler Yeats, two poets united by their fascination with myth and twilight atmospheres, in the session "W.B. Yeats and Lucio Piccolo. Celtic and Mediterranean twilights".
As part of the festival, the series of concerts by the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana at Villa Piccolo debuts: the performance by the Great Sicilian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Nicolò Jacopo Suppa, features music by Huber, Hummel, and Beethoven. Admission to the meetings is free, with a symbolic ticket for the symphonic concert.
Ficarra can be reached by car from the A20 Messina-Palermo motorway, taking the Brolo-Capo d'Orlando exit and continuing into the Nebrodi mountains. Villa Piccolo is located in Capo d'Orlando, in the Vina district, easily accessible from the motorway exit. The nearest train station is Capo d'Orlando-Naso, on the Tyrrhenian line.
Admission to the festival meetings is generally free; some evening concerts may require a symbolic ticket. It is recommended to check the updated program on the Fondazione Famiglia Piccolo di Calanovella website.
