About SinagrArte

SinagrArte is a collective contemporary art festival that transforms the village of Sinagra, nestled in the Nebrodi mountains in the province of Messina, into a sprawling creative laboratory every summer. Within the halls of the 19th-century Palazzo Salleo and across the squares of the historic center, painting, photography, sculpture, installations, and poetry converge, featuring both emerging artists and established masters. Curated by Filippo Puglia and organized by the Municipality and the Pro Loco, the event brings art out of traditional galleries to engage directly with the community.

A contemporary art festival in the heart of the Nebrodi

SinagrArte is an international collective contemporary art festival that brings the village of Sinagraโ€”a small gem in the Nebrodi Park in the province of Messina, Sicilyโ€”to life every summer. For several days, the historic center turns into a vast, open-air exhibition space where painting, photography, sculpture, installations, and poetry dialogue with the town's identity and its inhabitants. The main venue is the elegant Palazzo Salleo, an imposing 19th-century building once belonging to the noble Sicilian family of the same name, recently acquired and restored by the Municipality.

History and Identity

Born from a local cultural project rooted in the 1980s, SinagrArte has grown into a highly anticipated event of the Nebrodi summer. The festival brings together different generations of artists: emerging talents alongside masters with over thirty years of experience, in a dialogue that showcases the creative vitality of the region. Each edition features a central theme: the 2025 edition, the fourth, was dedicated to "Ithaca," a metaphor for homecoming and self-discovery, explored through memory, vision, and civic engagement.

What to Expect

  • Widespread exhibitions in the halls of Palazzo Salleo, as well as in the squares and public spaces of the village
  • Works of painting, photography, sculpture, and installation by emerging and established artists
  • Poetry readings with local poets and storytelling sessions
  • Live music, meetings, workshops, and outdoor performances
  • A constant focus on civic and social issues, with special projects and reportage

Art that meets the people

One of the most appreciated aspects of the festival is the choice to take art beyond the confines of exhibition halls, with installations and performances scattered throughout the streets and squares of Sinagra. It is a way to reach the public, evoke emotions, and spark reflection, transforming the entire village into an open-air exhibition route. The festival is curated by Filippo Puglia and organized by the Municipality of Sinagra in collaboration with the Pro Loco Sinagra Centofontane.

Sinagra and the Nebrodi

Visiting SinagrArte is also a perfect opportunity to discover Sinagra and the Nebrodi area, with its nature, traditions, and the typical gastronomy of inland Sicily. The village, crossed by the stream of the same name, preserves a compact and welcoming historic center, the ideal setting for an event that makes the encounter between art and community its hallmark.

SinagrArte โ€” edition 2026

The new edition of SinagrArte in Sinagra is expected for the summer of 2026, continuing the tradition of previous years held in August at Palazzo Salleo. At the moment, the official dates and the program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced by the organizers. The festival will feature its usual widespread contemporary art exhibitions, poetry readings, music, and installations throughout the historic center of the Nebrodi village.

The 2026 edition of SinagrArte is currently in preparation: at the conclusion of the 2025 festival, the organizers invited the public to join them for the next edition. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced; in line with the event's tradition, it is expected to take place in August at Palazzo Salleo and within the spaces of the historic center of Sinagra, in the Nebrodi mountains. The usual ingredients are confirmed: collective exhibitions of painting, photography, sculpture, and installation, poetry readings, live music, and outdoor performances. The detailed program will be published by the Municipality of Sinagra and the Pro Loco in the months leading up to the event.
