The black fig that tells the story of Caneva

At the end of August, when the orchards at the foot of the Castle are full and ripe, Caneva celebrates its most precious product: the Figo Moro da Caneva, a fig with dark skin, red and very sweet pulp, protected by a consortium that has revived an almost extinct cultivation over the years. From a handful of producers, it has grown to about fifty consortium members and around two thousand plants: a small agricultural renaissance that the "In Campagna col Figo Moro" event stages in the most convivial way possible.

A festival in the garden of Villa Frova

The heart of the event is the garden of Villa Frova, in the center of Caneva, which for an entire day is filled with food and wine stands, sales stalls of fresh Figo Moro and its derivatives, jams, sauces, and pastry products. Visitors stroll among the exhibitors, participate in guided tours of the villa and its surroundings, and discover how this fruit pairs well with both sweet and savory dishes.

Experiences in the countryside and on the water

In addition to the gastronomic part, the festival offers experiences that link the product to its landscape. You can book harvesting experiences in the Figo Moro orchards, to experience firsthand the effort and care that goes into each box of figs, and electric boat trips to the Palù di Livenza, the internal peat bog-lagoon recognized as a UNESCO site, a few kilometers from the town, where the silence of the water tells another story of the territory.

Shows, tastings, and atmosphere

The day unfolds with entertainment for families and children from the morning, guided tastings of local products, and comedy shows: the famous I Papu, a beloved Friulian comedy duo, have been featured over the years. Towards evening, the catering service offers regional dishes and specialties based on Figo Moro, while visitors enjoy an aperitif in the villa's courtyard. An event organized in collaboration with the Municipality of Caneva, the Chamber of Commerce Pordenone-Udine, and the protection consortium, with the patronage of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.
