A dive into the past
I Mestieri di una volta is a re-enactment that brings to Villa di Tirano, in the province of Sondrio, the ancient artisan activities that once marked the days in the villages of Valtellina. Woodworking, wrought iron, weaving, and other crafts are recreated with live demonstrations.
Squares as an open-air museum
The event takes place in the spaces of Piazzetta Don Aldo Pera and Casa Ninatti, transformed for the occasion into an open-air museum. Visitors can observe up close how the artisan activities of the past were carried out, in a journey that combines historical memory and education.
Memory preserved by the Alpini
The event is promoted by the Gruppo Alpini of Villa di Tirano in collaboration with the village associations and numerous volunteers. Recently established and welcomed with great attendance, it has become an event to be repeated to continue telling the story of Villa di Tirano and alpine Lombardy through the gestures and sounds of the past.

The 2026 edition of I Mestieri di una volta took place on Sunday, February 8, in Villa di Tirano. The squares in the center, particularly Piazzetta Don Aldo Pera and the Casa Ninatti spaces, were transformed into an open-air museum, with live re-enactments of artisan crafts such as woodworking, wrought iron, and weaving. The initiative, promoted by the Gruppo Alpini of Villa di Tirano with local associations and numerous volunteers, attracted many citizens and curious onlookers and was welcomed as an event to be repeated.
