The Hunter's Festival in Farnese

In the heart of the Tuscia Viterbese, the small medieval village of Farnese (Province of Viterbo, Lazio) hosts the Hunter's Festival every summer, one of the most cherished hunting events in the area. Originally established as a meeting point for hunting enthusiasts and local associations, the festival has become a staple of the Farnese Summer calendar, drawing visitors from throughout the region.

Where it takes place

The heart of the event is the Giardino di via San Magno, in the center of Farnese, where food stalls, the music stage, and meeting areas are set up. Some activities, such as the pointing dog trials, are held in the surrounding countryside, in areas traditionally suited to hunting, such as the Casone.

Between hunting tradition and conviviality

The Hunter's Festival is more than just a food festival: it is an opportunity to discuss and share the world of hunting. Over the years, the program has featured:

• Debates and conferences on the hunting world, with the participation of representatives from trade associations (Federcaccia, Unione Nazionale Cacciatori, A.N.L.C.) and local officials;
• Pointing dog trials for pheasants and dog shows, also dedicated to Italian hunting breeds and the Maremmano hound;
• Shooting competitions in both rifle and shotgun categories, as well as archery exhibitions;
• Performances and shows, such as trial bike and motorcycle skill demonstrations.

The flavors of game

The true star of the evenings is the game-based cuisine. Food stalls offer dishes featuring game meat and traditional Tuscia peasant specialties, accompanied by local products and regional wines. Dinner, served every evening, is the most anticipated moment, when the Giardino di via San Magno fills with convivial tables and live music.

A highlight of the Farnese Summer

Part of the extensive Farnese Summer program promoted by the Municipality of Farnese in collaboration with local associations, the Hunter's Festival traditionally takes place in August, during one of the month's weekends. For those visiting the Tuscia region, it is also a great opportunity to discover Farnese and its surroundings, including the Selva del Lamone, Lake Mezzano, and the atmosphere of the Farnese Renaissance.
