About Holy Week

In the days leading up to Easter, the Co-Cathedral Basilica of Larino becomes the spiritual center of the Diocese of Termoli-Larino. The Holy Week celebrations, presided over by the Bishop, mark the Easter Triduum with the Liturgy of the Passion on Good Friday and the solemn Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday, in a journey of prayer that involves the entire Frentana community.

Holy Week in Larino

The Holy Week in Larino, in the province of Campobasso, represents one of the most intense spiritual moments of the liturgical calendar of the Diocese of Termoli-Larino. The main celebrations take place in the Co-Cathedral Basilica, the historic seat of the Frentana community, and are presided over by the diocesan Bishop.

The Easter Triduum

The heart of the celebrations is the Easter Triduum: on Good Friday, the Liturgy of the Passion of the Lord is celebrated, while on Holy Saturday, the solemn Easter Vigil announces the Resurrection. Ancient rites that draw faithful from all over the diocesan territory in an atmosphere of recollection and participation.

A Shared Easter

The Larino celebrations also extend to places of suffering: Bishop Claudio Palumbo visits the chapel of the "Mother Teresa of Calcutta" hospice and that of the Larino prison every year to share Easter with the guests. A gesture that underlines the value of prayer and sharing that characterizes Holy Week in the heart of Molise.
