The Passion of Christ comes to life in Blera

On Good Friday, the small village of Blera, in the province of Viterbo, transforms into a grand open-air stage for the Historical Re-enactment of the Passion of Christ. Organized by the Associazione del Venerdì Santo, the event has become a cornerstone of Holy Week in the Lazio region, marking its 38th edition in 2026. For one evening, the entire community participates, featuring actors in period costumes and elaborate sets scattered throughout the historic center.

A story that traverses the village

The performance begins at 8:00 PM as an itinerant journey. It all starts in Largo Padre Virginio Rotondi with the opening of the Roman camp, where soldiers, centurions, and figures from the Gospel story kick off the procession. From there, the parade winds through the village streets, guiding spectators through the key moments of the Passion until it reaches Località Conserva, the scenic heart of the evening, where the Crucifixion and Resurrection are performed.

Faith, memory, and popular theater

The Blera Re-enactment combines the spiritual depth of Good Friday with the power of community theater: dozens of residents of all ages participate as actors, managing costumes, sets, and acting.
