The travelling Via Crucis that transforms the Marmore Waterfall into ancient Jerusalem
The Historical Re-enactment of the Passion of Christ is one of the most evocative events on Good Friday in Umbria. The small village of Marmore, a hamlet in the municipality of Terni, symbolically transforms into ancient Jerusalem, using the Marmore Waterfall Park, one of Europe's wonders, as its natural backdrop.
The performance is travelling: the audience follows the scenes along the various stations of the Via Crucis, from Campacci Park to the Upper Belvedere. The narrative, guided by a narrator's voice and inspired by the Gospel texts, covers the central moments of the Passion – from the Last Supper to the betrayal, from the arrest to the flagellation, from the ascent to Calvary to the Resurrection.
Bringing the re-enactment to life are over 130 participants in costume, illuminated by candles and torches that create an intense and solemn atmosphere. The event, free of charge and organized by the Pro Loco Marmore, involves the entire local community and combines religious tradition, popular spirituality, and the enhancement of a symbolic site in the province of Terni.
The tenth edition of the Re-enactment of the Passion of Christ transformed the village of Marmore into ancient Jerusalem on the evening of Good Friday, April 3, 2026. Over 130 costumed participants brought the travelling representation to life along the stations of the Via Crucis, from Campacci Park to the Upper Belvedere of the Marmore Waterfall Park.
The performance, staged from approximately 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, was illuminated by candles and torches to recreate an atmosphere of strong intensity. The theme for the 2026 edition was hope. The event, free of charge, was organized by Pro Loco Marmore with the participation of local participants and volunteers.
