Palestro relives its epic Risorgimento battle of 1859
The Historical Re-enactment of the Battle of Palestro brings to life one of the most significant events of the Italian Risorgimento: the Battle of Palestro of 1859, fought during the Second War of Italian Independence. The village of Palestro, in the province of Pavia, in the heart of Lomellina, becomes the stage for a grand re-enactment for several days, combining historical memory, spectacle, and culture.
The most anticipated moment is the re-enactment of the battle, with uniformed detachments clashing near the historical sites. The historical encampment is set up on Viale Italia, where you can admire the field tents, uniforms, and weapons of the era. The re-enactors, from various historical associations, create a philological reconstruction that restores the atmosphere of 1859.
The event is not just about the battle: the program includes historical conferences with prominent speakers, guided tours of the historical buildings of the city's Diffused Museum, Risorgimento dance performances, and band concerts. A journey that delves into the historical and cultural context of the Risorgimento, making the re-enactment an occasion for education as well as entertainment.
Organized by the Associazione Storica Compania de le Quatr'Arme, the re-enactment involves history enthusiasts, institutions, and citizens, with free admission. An event that makes Palestro a reference point for Risorgimento re-enactments in Lombardy and keeps alive the memory of a battle that marked Italy's history.
The 2026 edition of the Historical Re-enactment of the Battle of Palestro takes place from May 22 to 31, featuring ten days of events including costume re-enactments, conferences, concerts, food stalls, and historical walks. Organized by the Compania de le Quatr'Arme, the event offers free admission.
