The Historical Carnival of the Districts is the carnival celebration of Cairo Montenotte, a town in the Val Bormida in the province of Savona. It is an event with deep roots, marked by its historical masks and the participation of the city's districts, which every year come together to bring to life one of the most vibrant traditions of the Savona winter.

The masks: Nuvarin der Castè and the Castellana

The protagonists of the carnival are the official masks: the Nuvarin der Castè and the Castellana, symbolic figures linked to the history and the castle that dominates the city. Every year a new Castellana is proclaimed, who, together with the Nuvarin, leads the festivities and represents the Cairo community during the parades.

The grand parade in Piazza della Vittoria

The climax is the parade in Piazza della Vittoria, the heart of the city, where floats, masked groups, and the festive districts parade. Amidst confetti, music, and merriment, the carnival involves young and old in an afternoon of pure fun, organized by the Historical Committee of the Districts and the Pro Loco.
