Three days of flavor, tradition, and entertainment in the hexagonal heart of the Calatino area
Hexa Food — The Supply Chains of the Hexagon is the food and wine festival that brings Grammichele to life, a town in the Metropolitan City of Catania known worldwide for its unique perfect hexagon urban plan, designed after the 1693 earthquake. The festival takes its name from this very shape: a tribute to the city's identity and the production chains that span the Calatino territory.
The event takes place in Piazza Carlo Maria Carafa, the monumental living room at the center of the hexagon and the heart of city life. Promoted by the Municipality of Grammichele and co-financed by the Sicilian Region as part of the "Sicilia che Piace" project, Hexa Food serves as a showcase for local food and wine excellence and an opportunity to highlight the area's producers and artisans.
The absolute star is the Calatino gastronomic tradition, told through typical products and artisanal craftsmanship. Among the specialties to discover and taste:
Beyond the food stands, Hexa Food offers free masterclasses by reservation, identity-focused talks on supply chains, and three evenings of entertainment featuring music and comedy. The program alternates moments of cultural insight with shows designed for a wide audience, featuring artists and well-known faces from the Sicilian scene.
More than just a festival, Hexa Food is a collective story about the bond between food, tradition, and community. Strolling through the stands of the hexagonal square, savoring the specialties of the Calatino, and getting swept up in the evenings of folk music and cabaret means experiencing the authentic hospitality of this corner of inland Sicily, just a few kilometers from Caltagirone and in the heart of the province of Catania.
The inaugural edition of Hexa Food — The Supply Chains of the Hexagon brought Piazza Carlo Maria Carafa to life for three days with a program that combined taste, culture, and entertainment.
Throughout the event, the stands offered the best of the Calatino: salsiccia al ceppo, piduneda, typical cheeses, cassatelle, cuccureddi, and local wines.
Grammichele is located in the Calatino area, in the province of Catania. By car, it can be reached via the SS417 Catania-Gela; the nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa, about an hour away. The Grammichele train station is served by the Catania-Gela line.
All events take place in Piazza Carlo Maria Carafa, in the hexagonal historic center.
Access to the festival area is free. Masterclasses are free but require reservation subject to availability. We recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Grammichele for program updates.
