The Sacred Heart concert by the Taufers band at the music pavilion
The Herz-Jesu-Konzert is the annual concert that the Musikkapelle Taufers im Münstertal dedicates to the Sunday of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Herz-Jesu-Sonntag). It takes place at the Musikpavillon, the charming music pavilion in Taufers im Münstertal, a small border village at the western end of the Val Venosta, in South Tyrol (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige). The concert begins in the evening at 8:30 PM and admission is free.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart is one of the most deeply felt observances throughout Tyrol and South Tyrol. Its roots date back to 1796, when representatives of Tyrol, gathered in Bolzano to face the threat of Napoleonic troops, vowed to consecrate their land to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Since then, the second Sunday after Corpus Christi is celebrated with solemn masses, village processions, and the famous Sacred Heart fires (Herz-Jesu-Feuer), which illuminate the mountainsides with glowing crosses and hearts at night. The band's concert is the perfect musical conclusion to this day of celebration.
The Musikkapelle Taufers im Münstertal is the local brass band of Taufers im Münstertal, affiliated with the Verband Südtiroler Musikkapellen (VSM), the federation of South Tyrolean bands in the Schlanders district. As in all German-speaking villages in South Tyrol, the band is a pillar of community life, accompanying religious services, processions, and major calendar events, from spring concerts to summer performances. The Herz-Jesu-Konzert is a staple of their schedule, alongside their regular summer evening concerts at the pavilion.
Taufers im Münstertal is a border municipality nestled in the Val Monastero (Münstertal), just steps from the Swiss border. It is the only Italian municipality in the valley, which continues into Swiss territory toward Müstair and its famous Benedictine monastery. Surrounded by forests and mountains, the village retains an intimate, authentic atmosphere where popular and religious traditions still set the rhythm of the year.
