A gourmet walking tour through the trails of Chianti, starting in San Gusmè
GustaPassi — Chianti Flavours Trekking is a non-competitive recreational hiking event open to everyone, combining a love for walking with the discovery of local food and wine. The event was established in 2026, choosing the village of San Gusmè—one of the most charming hamlets in Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the province of Siena—as its inaugural stage in the heart of the Chianti Tuscany region.
The experience winds along the naturalistic paths of the Berardenga area, interspersed with gourmet stops designed for discovery and socialising. This is not a race: participants walk in groups led by expert hikers, with staggered departures to ensure safety and a high-quality experience. Along the route, the travelling lunch stations allow you to savour local products, turning the walk into a journey through the flavours and traditions of the Sienese Chianti.
San Gusmè is a small medieval village nestled within walls and hills cultivated with vines and olive trees, also famous for its renowned Palio delle Botti (Barrel Race), which GustaPassi naturally complements during the same weekend in late May. Walking in this area means traversing one of Tuscany's most iconic landscapes, defined by rows of vines, cypress trees, and ancient farmhouses, recognized worldwide as the home of Chianti Classico wine.
GustaPassi is organised by the Pro San Gusmè Association and the Berardenga Hiking Group, with the patronage of the Municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga and the Italian Hiking Federation (Tuscany Regional Committee). The event is limited to 200 participants and offers a wonderful opportunity to experience the Sienese countryside at a slow pace, amidst nature, good food, and social connection.
The inaugural edition of GustaPassi — Chianti Flavours Trekking was held on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with its first stage in San Gusmè, a hamlet of Castelnuovo Berardenga (SI). The hike, non-competitive and open to all, wound along the naturalistic trails of the Berardenga area, interspersed with gourmet stops designed as moments of discovery and socialising. The event took place during the Palio delle Botti weekend, enlivening the village and the surrounding hills.
It was recommended to arrive 15-20 minutes before the departure time to collect the coupon. The event was scheduled to take place even in the event of ordinary bad weather.
