Culture, memory, and journalism in Brusciano in honor of Guido De Ruggiero
The Guido De Ruggiero Journalistic-Literary Meeting is an annual cultural event held in Brusciano, in the province of Naples, promoted by the Pro Loco of Brusciano APS with the patronage of the Municipality of Brusciano and in collaboration with local schools. The initiative is dedicated to the figure of Guido De Ruggiero, a philosopher and historian who served as Minister of Public Education in the Bonomi II Government in 1944 and who rests in the Brusciano cemetery, alongside his son-in-law, the historian Renzo De Felice. This deep bond with the community has inspired an event that weaves together memory, culture, and current affairs.
The heart of the event is the direct encounter between local school students and guests from the world of journalism and Campanian culture. Past editions have featured prominent figures such as Gianfranco Coppola, editor-in-chief of TGR Campania and National President of the USSI, writer and essayist Angelo Forgione, author of works on the Neapolitan language, publisher Marco Lo Basso, Fanpage deputy director Ciro Pellegrino, and humorist and writer Amedeo Colella. The students are not mere spectators: they prepare questions, present their own work, and become active participants in a lively discussion on writing and the power of the word.
Each edition culminates in the awarding of the Sulla strada di Guido De Ruggiero Prize, reserved for students of Brusciano's comprehensive schools. The competition is divided into several sections, from classical poetry to short stories, and from short films to video poetry, showcasing the creativity of young people around a theme that changes each year. A central moment is the presentation of publications curated by the Pro Loco, such as the volume La parola: la dimora dell'essere, dedicated to promoting the dialectal heritage and linguistic roots of the territory.
Supported by Unpli at the provincial and regional levels and accompanied by institutional greetings from the Mayor and city authorities, the Journalistic-Literary Meeting has established itself as a reference point for Brusciano and the Nola area. The event reaffirms the Pro Loco's belief that culture is a tool for youth development and a way to safeguard the intellectual legacy of a figure like Guido De Ruggiero, returning it to the city that preserves his memory.
The fifth edition took place on May 22, 2026, at the Auditorium of the De Filippo-De Ruggiero Comprehensive Institute in Brusciano. After institutional greetings from Mayor Giacomo Romano, parish priest Father Salvatore Purcaro, school principals, and Unpli Naples President Claudio Napolitano, students met with three guests: TGR Campania editor-in-chief Gianfranco Coppola, publisher Marco Lo Basso, and writer and essayist Angelo Forgione. The volumes Capitani per Sempre and Napolitiamo were presented, along with the Pro Loco publication La parola: la dimora dell'essere.
The event takes place at the Auditorium of the De Filippo-De Ruggiero Comprehensive Institute, on Via Giovanni Falcone in Brusciano (NA).
Brusciano is located in the Nola area, east of Naples. By car, it can be reached via the A16 motorway (Nola exit) or the A30. By train, the reference station is Nola on the Circumvesuviana line, with a connection by bus or taxi to Brusciano.
The initiative, which is educational and cultural in nature, is free to attend. For information and an updated program, it is recommended to contact the Pro Loco of Brusciano APS.
