The sustainable architecture festival at Parco Lavino in Scafa
GreenFest, promoted by the GlobuliGreen ETS/ONLUS association, is a cultural and ecological event held at the Balera del Parco Lavino, in the Decontra district of Scafa, in the province of Pescara, in the green heart of Abruzzo. It is a celebration designed to reflect, experiment, and take concrete action on the themes of sustainable architecture, green building, and territorial regeneration, blending rigorous research with the convivial atmosphere of an outdoor day.
At the center of the event is the Globulus, a geodesic dome made of wood and insulated with sheep's wool sourced from a wool mill in Lanciano. Standing five meters high and covering a circular space of about one hundred square meters, it is one of the very few examples in Italy of a geodesic dome built with natural and recycled materials. Born from the Impatto.0 project, it hosts cultural events, scientific outreach, wellness activities, yoga, and performances throughout the year.
The GreenFest program weaves together theory and practice. Participants can try their hand at workshops dedicated to stone carving and the creation of wool insulation panels, visit the historic Mulino Farnese, and taste zero-kilometer products from the Fattoria Majella. There is also an opportunity to engage with those shaping the future: a roundtable brings together professors and professionals to discuss territorial regeneration, while the day concludes with ecstatic dance, a moment of sharing and listening.
The festival takes place in a stunning natural setting: the Parco delle sorgenti sulfuree del fiume Lavino, with its waters featuring intense turquoise hues, managed by the GlobuliGreen association. Founded in 2019 by a group of young people from the Pescara area led by engineer Eloisa Ferrone, the association has turned the park into an open-air laboratory for bio-architecture and sustainability, just a stone's throw from the Maiella National Park.
GreenFest is a free event open to everyone, suitable for families, curious visitors, and enthusiasts of ecology and architecture, who find in Scafa a unique and participatory way to experience the Abruzzo region.
The day of March 29, 2026, offered a journey combining manual skills, outreach, and conviviality, with the patronage of the Municipality of Scafa. From green building workshops to tastings of Fattoria Majella products, and discussions with professors from the d'Annunzio University, the edition reaffirmed the vocation of Parco Lavino as a place for ecological experimentation in the province of Pescara.
