The pistachio festival that ignites the Nebrodi summer in Brolo
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Green Gold Festival, also known as the Brolo Pistachio Festival, is one of the most anticipated summer gastronomic events in the Nebrodi area. It takes place in Brolo, a small village in the Province of Messina, Sicily, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea between Gioiosa Marea and Capo d'Orlando, dominated by its 13th-century medieval castle. The heart of the festival is Piazza Annunziatella, which for one evening transforms into a kaleidoscope of scents, flavors, music, and excitement.
Pistachio, the "green gold" that gives the festival its name, is the common thread throughout the food and wine experience. At the tasting stalls, you can sample specialties prepared with this precious fruit: pistachio pasta (the famous pennette), stuffed arancini, artisanal gelato in its various shades, desserts made by the organizing association, as well as pizzas and other offerings, all strictly pistachio-flavored. The tastings involve various local businesses and bars in the town, in a true collective celebration of joy and sharing.
The evening is not just about gastronomy: the square comes alive with live music and entertainment that turn it into an authentic dance floor. The most anticipated moment is the grand pyromusical finale, a triumph of lights, fireworks, and music that closes the festival, leaving the audience looking up in awe.
The event is organized by the Associazione Maria SS. Addolorata di Piana di Brolo, a volunteer group consisting of about forty active members. The festival also has a strong social value: the proceeds are used to support local families in economic difficulty, consolidating the bond between gastronomy and solidarity. An event that combines the promotion of a typical Sicilian product, popular tradition, and charitable commitment, and which over the years has established itself as one of the most heartfelt summer events on the Tyrrhenian coast of Messina.
The dates for the 2026 edition of the Green Gold Festival have not yet been announced. Over the years, the festival has taken place in August in Brolo (ME), in Piazza Annunziatella, with the customary path of pistachio-based tastings, musical entertainment, and the grand pyromusical finale. The detailed program will be published by the organizers closer to the event: it is recommended to follow the official channels of the Municipality of Brolo and the Associazione Maria SS. Addolorata di Piana di Brolo to learn about the date and events of the 2026 edition.
Brolo is located on the Tyrrhenian coast of the Province of Messina. By car, take the Brolo exit on the A20 Messina–Palermo motorway. By train, the Brolo-Ficarra station is served by the Messina–Palermo Tyrrhenian line.
The tasting stalls and the music stage are set up in Piazza Annunziatella, in the center of Brolo.
Access to the festival is free; tastings of pistachio products are paid for at the individual stalls. It is recommended to check the updated dates and program on the official channels of the Municipality of Brolo and the Associazione Maria SS. Addolorata.
