About Green Festival

Every spring, the rooftop garden of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone transforms into a vast green square. The Green and Landscape Festival is now one of Italy's premier events dedicated to landscape culture and the relationship between nature and the city. Three days of temporary gardens, installations, plant markets, meetings with landscape architects and botanists, children's workshops, and walks that invite you to see Rome through new eyes.

A festival on the roof of the Auditorium

The Green and Landscape Festival is the spring event that, for fifteen editions, has brought the garden into the heart of Rome. The venue is one of the most unusual in Italy: the rooftop garden of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, in the Flaminio district, which for three days becomes a walkable green square, dotted with temporary gardens, installations, and nurseries. It is not a gardening fair in the strict sense: it is a cultural festival that centers on the landscape as a daily practice, from the city to the home, and even the food we bring to the table.

The theme of the 2026 edition: «Making Kin»

The fifteenth edition, scheduled from April 10 to 12, 2026, has chosen «Making Kin» as its guiding theme: an invitation to rethink the bond between human beings, the environment, and urban space as a network of interdependent relationships. For three days, the Auditorium roof becomes a place to observe, understand, and experiment with how relationships are built between living things — plants, animals, people, buildings — in a city that must learn to live with climate change.

The six sections of the program

  • Rethinking the city — architects, agronomists, and researchers discuss green roofs, urban forests, and rain gardens as infrastructure for climate resilience.
  • Cultivating the garden — gardeners, botanists, and landscape architects describe the garden as a laboratory for coexistence between nature and the city, from historic gardens to terraces and natural gardens.
  • Living in the home — architects and designers guide the public to rethink interiors as small ecosystems capable of changing along with their inhabitants.
  • Eating the landscape — the link between agriculture, food, and territory, with a special focus on the Roman countryside and the local supply chain of the Lazio region.
  • Strolling through the markets — nurserymen, artisans, outdoor furniture, and organic products along the entire exhibition route.
  • Exploring as a family — workshops and adventures for children and teenagers, inspired in the 2026 edition by Italo Calvino's The Baron in the Trees.

New for 2026

Among the most anticipated proposals of the fifteenth edition is a path dedicated to balconies: eight micro-urban landscapes that show how to transform a space of a few square meters into a living ecosystem. Alongside the temporary gardens designed by Italian and international designers, the program weaves together talks, round tables, outdoor activities, and workshops, with a busy schedule distributed throughout the day.

Rome, Lazio, and landscape culture

The festival is held in the Municipality of Rome, in the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the heart of the Lazio Region — a territory where garden culture has deep roots, from the Renaissance villas of Tivoli and Frascati to the great historic parks of the capital such as Villa Borghese and Villa Doria Pamphilj. Rome Capital regularly participates in the event with its own institutional spaces dedicated to public green space management. For those visiting the city in spring, the Green and Landscape Festival is an opportunity to understand how a Mediterranean metropolis is rethinking its relationship with trees, water, and soil.

The atmosphere

The audience is diverse: gardening enthusiasts with bags full of newly purchased plants, families with children, architecture and landscape students, and curious visitors looking for a day outdoors. The event takes place entirely outdoors and is held in any weather condition: it is advisable to dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes, as the route is longer than it seems.

Green Festival — edition 2026

The fifteenth edition of the Green and Landscape Festival took place from April 10 to 12, 2026, on the rooftop garden of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome, with the theme «Making Kin»: an invitation to rethink the relationship between humans, the environment, and urban space as a network of interdependent relationships, featuring temporary gardens, plant markets, talks, and workshops.

For three days, the Auditorium roof became a walkable green square, animated by installations, temporary gardens, and nurseries. The theme «Making Kin» ran through the entire program, from the city scale to the home scale, and even to the food on the table.

The 2026 schedule was divided into six paths — Rethinking the city, Cultivating the garden, Living in the home, Eating the landscape, Strolling through the markets, and Exploring as a family — with talks, round tables, outdoor activities, and children's workshops. Among the novelties, a path dedicated to balconies with eight micro-urban landscapes that showed how to transform a few square meters into a living ecosystem.
