Vintage sails return to challenge each other in the waters of Sanremo
The Grandi Regate Internazionali are the sailing event that the Yacht Club Sanremo organizes in the city's Old Port, in the province of Imperia. Valid as a stage of the CIM Classic Yacht Trophy, the event brings together over forty vintage and classic boats, in collaboration with FIV (Italian Sailing Federation), CIM, and AIVE (Italian Vintage Sail Association).
The boats race in various classes — from large boats to vintage and classic yachts, including Sangermani — offering a highly captivating spectacle in the waters of the Riviera dei Fiori. The historic sails, restored and meticulously maintained, tell the story of recreational boating and Italian shipbuilding.
Alongside the races, the event features 'Vela & Sapori', a fun culinary competition among the crews, combining the passion for the sea with that for good food. An event that makes Sanremo a benchmark for classic sailing enthusiasts in the Mediterranean.
The 2026 edition will be held from May 21 to 23 in the Old Port of Sanremo, with over 40 vintage and classic boats competing. The planned classes are Grand Boat, Vintage Yacht, Classic Yacht, IOR Classics, Open (with ORC certificate), and Sangermani.
Registered boats benefit from free mooring at the Old Port from May 15 to June 1. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each class, plus a special prize for 'Vela & Sapori'.
The Old Port is in the center of Sanremo, reachable on foot from the train station. By car, take the Sanremo exit on the A10 motorway.
Races are reserved for registered boats (free mooring at the Old Port during a dedicated period). Starts and finishes are visible from the port and the promenade.
