The historical car re-enactment starting from Alessandria
The Grand Prix Bordino is one of the most cherished events in the Alessandria calendar dedicated to historical motoring. Organized by the Veteran Car Club Pietro Bordino with the patronage of the City of Alessandria, the rally departs from the city each year for a three-day journey discovering the beauty of Piedmont and neighboring regions, behind the wheel of cars that have made automotive history.
The event is named after Pietro Bordino, a Piedmontese champion of the 1920s nicknamed the "Red Devil," who lost his life in 1928 during practice sessions on the Alessandria Circuit. Since then, his name has been inextricably linked to the city and its motoring tradition: the Grand Prix Bordino was created to keep this memory alive, combining a passion for engines with the cultural, landscape, and food and wine promotion of the territories crossed.
The rally attracts dozens of crews every year, many coming from abroad—France, Switzerland, and Germany—testifying to the event's international prestige. Among the participants are some of the world's most famous brands: Bugatti, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati, and Abarth, with vehicles arriving from museums and prestigious private collections. To enhance the retro atmosphere, drivers wear period clothing consistent with their cars.
The Grand Prix Bordino is included in the ASI Circuito Tricolore, the national calendar of the Italian Historic Automotoclub dedicated to historical motoring events that promote the knowledge and enhancement of the territories. The event also enjoys the patronage of national institutions and the support of the Piedmont Region and the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria.
For the city of Alessandria and the entire province in Piedmont, the Grand Prix Bordino represents much more than a classic car rally: it is an opportunity to rediscover local motoring roots and welcome enthusiasts and onlookers who gather in the city center to admire the vehicles up close before they depart for their itinerary through landscapes, castles, and exceptional locations.
Alessandria is easily reachable by train (station on the Turin-Genoa and Milan-Genoa lines) and by car via the A21 and A26 motorways. The rally and parade take place in the city center, with the gathering and parking of vehicles in Piazza della Libertà.
The departure and the parade in the center of Alessandria are open to the public and free of charge: anyone can admire the vintage cars during the gathering. Registration for the rally is reserved for crews with classic cars. For information on registration and the program, please consult the official website www.pbordino.com.
