The historic running race across the bridges and canals of Comacchio
The Gran Premio 11 Ponti is one of the longest-standing and most cherished running events in Emilia-Romagna. It takes place in Comacchio, in the province of Ferrara, the lagoon town known as "little Venice" for the network of canals, bridges, and alleys that characterise its historic centre. The race, which in 2026 will celebrate its 58th edition, is organised by the Running Club Comacchio with the patronage of the Municipal Administration.
The 8.5 km race route is the real star: it winds entirely through Comacchio's most characteristic monuments, crossing the eleven bridges that give the event its name. The most evocative moment is crossing the Trepponti, the iconic 17th-century structure with five staircases that has become the symbol of the city. Running along the canals, between the low pastel-coloured houses and the brackish water of the valleys, offers an experience that uniquely combines sport and landscape.
More than just a race, the Gran Premio 11 Ponti is a popular festival that involves the entire Comacchio community. Alongside the competitive race, there is a non-competitive walk along the same route, a Nordic Walking session, and the mini-race for children. The event, which attracts athletes from all over Romagna and the Ferrara region, traditionally concludes with refreshments and awards, in a convivial atmosphere that makes the evening one of the highlights of the city's summer calendar.
The event is usually held on the first Saturday of June, with assembly at Piazzale Alighieri and start and finish at Via Zappata. The late afternoon start allows participants to run in the warm sunset light reflecting on the canals, one of the most beloved aspects of the event.
The 58th edition of the Gran Premio 11 Ponti was held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Comacchio, province of Ferrara. The event, organised by the Running Club Comacchio, reprised the tried-and-tested formula that combines competition and popular participation along the characteristic route crossing the eleven bridges of the historic centre, including the famous Trepponti.
The programme included assembly at Piazzale Alighieri from 3:30 PM, the mini-race for the youngest, the Nordic Walking event, and, at sunset, the competitive race and the non-competitive walk over the 8.5 km distance, with start and finish at Via Zappata.
Start and finish at Via Zappata; the route crosses the eleven historic bridges of Comacchio and the Trepponti. Timing by federal technical services. Refreshments and awards to follow.
