The June 2nd brass band concert in the amphitheatre of the Grand Hotel Imperial
The Grand Concert for the Republic is the annual event through which Levico Terme, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), celebrates Republic Day on June 2nd. Promoted by the Municipality of Levico Terme, the event combines the civic solemnity of the anniversary with the popular and engaging language of brass band music, in a free evening open to everyone.
The setting is one of the most evocative in Valsugana: the outdoor amphitheatre of the Grand Hotel Imperial, a historic hotel built during the Habsburg era between 1899 and 1900, nestled in the greenery of the Parco delle Terme. The open-air space, reopened to the public for the occasion, is prized for its natural acoustics, which have been praised by the musicians themselves. The concert has also reignited local debate regarding the enhancement and future public use of this iconic building in the spa town.
Two local ensembles take turns and join forces on stage:
Together, they offer a varied and engaging orchestral repertoire that weaves together patriotic anthems, film scores, and famous pieces, celebrating the values of peace, freedom, and equality that form the foundation of the Republic.
The program alternates between solemn moments and more festive ones, opening with the Inno di Mameli and closing the evening with the Inno al Trentino and the Ode to Joy. The event is aimed at an intergenerational audience—adults, seniors, young people, children, and families—and often concludes with a convivial moment, featuring refreshments for the audience and musicians. The Grand Concert for the Republic thus represents a small civic and community ritual that renews, year after year, the bond between the spa town and its bands.
On June 2nd, 2026, the outdoor amphitheatre of the Grand Hotel Imperial, reopened for the occasion, hosted the Grand Concert for the Republic in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Italian Republic, with the theme "Harmony in Democracy".
The evening began with the Inno di Mameli, continued with the Inno al Trentino, and concluded with the Ode to Joy. The Levico Terme Town Band (maestro Giuseppe Calvino) and the Caldonazzo Band (maestro Gianni Costa) presented a repertoire celebrating the values of peace, freedom, and equal opportunity. The music overcame the bad weather in front of over 120 spectators, with a final reception under the porticoes of Villa Sissi.
