Cimbrian Christmas in the 19th-century house-museum of Luserna

Christmas at Haus von Prükk is the annual event where, every late December, the small Cimbrian community of Luserna / Lusérn celebrates the festive season by rediscovering its roots. For one afternoon, the ancient Haus von Prükk—a 19th-century farmhouse now transformed into a precious ethnographic museum—hosts the authentic culture and traditions of the Cimbrian people, a linguistic minority of Germanic origin that has settled on the plateau for centuries.
Stepping across the threshold of the house-museum, visitors are enveloped in the warmth of a time that seems to stand still. Around the lit hearth, the filò comes alive—the ancient evening vigil by the fire that marked the long winter nights in the mountains. In the rooms, you will find lace-makers bent over their bobbins, witness the preparation of sweets according to ancient recipes, see woodworking, and in the stable, find the animals that complete the picture of rural life from days gone by.
The convivial side is not forgotten: mulled wine and hot tea warm the visitors, while the scent of freshly baked sweets fills the air throughout the afternoon. It is an authentic opportunity to experience Christmas away from the large markets, immersed in an intimate and familiar atmosphere.
Located in the Municipality of Luserna, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige), the village is among the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy and is the last linguistic island where Cimbrian is still a living language spoken daily. The event is organized by the Cimbrian Institute - Kulturinstitut Lusern, which has always been committed to the protection and transmission of the Cimbrian language and culture. Participating means not only enjoying a festive afternoon but also supporting the survival of a precious and fragile cultural heritage.
The 2026 edition of Christmas at Haus von Prükk does not yet have official dates published. Based on previous years, the event is expected to take place in the last week of December 2026, following the usual format of an immersive afternoon into Cimbrian traditions at the house-museum of Luserna.
