Float parades, the Grand Polentata, and historical masks at the gates of Turin
Every February, the Grand Carnival of Settimo Torinese transforms the streets of this town on the northern outskirts of Turin, in the heart of the Piedmont region, into a massive open-air stage. Organized by the Pro Loco of Settimo Torinese, the event draws families, children, and curious visitors from across the Turin metropolitan area with its blend of allegorical floats, local gastronomy, and entertainment for all ages.
The most anticipated moment is the parade of allegorical floats and costumed groups: massive papier-mรขchรฉ creations, satire, fantasy, and colors that wind through the city amidst music and confetti. The procession starts at Piazzale Freidano and travels through the city streets, concluding in the market areaโa spectacle especially beloved by the little ones.
The local carnival has deep roots. It is managed by the Carlevรจ Setimeis, an ancient association structured as an abbey that, since 1970, has preserved local carnival traditions as part of the Ca de Studi Settimesi. The stars of the show are the city's traditional masks: the Gran Priore, the Bela Lavandera (established in 1970), and La Veja, the oldest mask of Settimo. They embody the popular identity of the town and symbolically lead the festivities.
Alongside the parade, the Carnival of Settimo maintains a strong bond with traditional Piedmontese cuisine. The Grand Carnival Polentata gathers hundreds of people in the square around a symbolic local dish: a convivial event that combines flavor, community, and tradition, inheriting the legacy of the ancient Gran Polenton of the local festivities.
The program also includes the Children's Carnival, featuring entertainment, games, and activities designed for the little ones, as well as a funfair set up for several weeks with a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and classic fairground attractions. It is a perfect opportunity to experience the Carnival as a family, surrounded by costumes, traditional sweets, and a festive atmosphere.
Anyone wishing to parade with their own costumed group can contact the Pro Loco of Settimo Torinese for more information.
The Grand Carnival of Settimo Torinese 2026, organized by the Pro Loco, enlivened the city with three main events and the traditional funfair.
From January 31 to February 22, the funfair at Piazzale Freidano featured a Ferris wheel, bumper cars, and attractions for all ages.
Settimo Torinese is located just a few kilometers from Turin, along the A4 motorway (Settimo Torinese exit). By train, it is accessible from the Settimo Torinese station, on the Turin-Milan line, served by the Metropolitan Railway Service.
Events are distributed between Piazzale Freidano (parade start and funfair), Via Einaudi (market area), Piazza San Pietro in Vincoli (Grand Polentata), and Piazza Campidoglio (Children's Carnival).
Participation in the parade and events in the squares is free. The funfair and any food services have separate fees.
