About Grana Carnival

The Grana Monferrato Carnival is a winter tradition that brings the small hillside village in the province of Asti together for a simple, genuine, and convivial evening. Organized by the Pro Loco in partnership with the Municipality and the Grana Arte e Tradizione association, the event takes place in the Pro Loco Hall, welcoming guests of all ages with traditional sweets, fried bugie, hot chocolate, and drinks. It is a classic, old-fashioned Carnival, defined by smiles and the joy of coming together in the heart of the UNESCO-listed Monferrato hills.

The Grana Monferrato Carnival

In the heart of the Asti Monferrato hills, the Grana Monferrato Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events for the small community of Grana, in the province of Asti, Piedmont. Far from the grand parades of allegorical floats, this Carnival maintains an intimate, family-friendly atmosphere: a social evening designed to bring people together, share a smile, and enjoy the pleasure of community, involving both adults and children in the simple, genuine spirit of a traditional Carnival.

A Pro Loco Celebration

The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Grana Monferrato, in collaboration with the Municipality and the Grana Arte e Tradizione association, organizations that have long preserved and promoted the village's folklore and traditions. The gathering takes place in the Pro Loco Hall, the hub of local social life, where the celebration becomes a meeting point for the entire hillside community.

Flavors and Carnival Traditions

The evening centers on a delicious and convivial menu, showcasing the classic flavors of the Piedmontese Carnival:

  • Bugie, the traditional Carnival fritters, fragrant and dusted with sugar;
  • Hot chocolate and drinks to warm up the winter evening;
  • Traditional local sweets.

Everything is offered by the Pro Loco, making this festival a gift to the community: a way to strengthen local bonds and pass on the joy of togetherness.

Grana Monferrato and its Territory

Grana Monferrato is a village of just under six hundred inhabitants nestled on a hill at an altitude of 289 meters, along the ridge connecting the Asti area to the Casale area. The territory, renowned for its viticulture and particularly the production of Barbera, is part of the Monferrato wine landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Municipality added the term "Monferrato" to its name in 2023, highlighting its deep bond with this land of hills, vineyards, and traditions. The Carnival is one of the moments that best captures the identity of this small community in the Piedmont Region.
