The road cycling granfondo through the hills of Teramo
The Gran Fondo Colli Teramani was established in 2026 as a new fixture for amateur road cycling in Abruzzo, with its start and finish line in San Nicolò a Tordino, a bustling district of Teramo. Organized by Team Eventi Ciclismo in collaboration with Team Go Fast and local ACSI-affiliated cycling clubs, the event immediately established itself as one of the season-opening races for granfondo and mediofondo events in the region.
The course winds through the picturesque hills of the Teramo province, crossing the Tordino and Vomano valleys and passing through a dozen local municipalities, including Teramo, Castellalto, Notaresco, Morro d'Oro, Roseto degli Abruzzi, Atri, Cellino Attanasio, Penna Sant'Andrea, Cermignano, and Montefino. Participants can choose between two distances:
A non-competitive cyclotourist option is also available for those who wish to ride without timing and simply enjoy the Abruzzo hill landscape.
The Gran Fondo Colli Teramani is included in the Granfondo Marche circuit (as a non-subscription event) and the ACSI Abruzzo Tour calendar, strengthening its appeal to amateur cyclists across central Italy. The race joins other events that bring the start of the cycling season in Abruzzo to life.
The event is about more than just competition: the Municipality of Teramo and the organizers host various activities to promote the local area. The day before the race, a promotional gymkhana for children is held, featuring games and courses managed by local cycling schools. After the race, the traditional pasta party takes place, followed by the awards ceremony, which includes categories for "Him&Her" couples and the largest participating teams.
The first edition, held on March 1, 2026, far exceeded expectations with over 400 registered participants, confirming itself as a welcome addition to the amateur cycling landscape in the province of Teramo and Abruzzo. The success in terms of attendance and organization has already led the organizers to plan the next edition, with the goal of consolidating its growth in the coming years.
The first edition of the Gran Fondo Colli Teramani, held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, with start and finish in San Nicolò a Tordino (Teramo), was a debut to remember. Over 400 amateur cyclists set off at 9 a.m., choosing between the 120.6 km Gran Fondo and the 91.5 km Medio Fondo, along a route that crossed a dozen municipalities in the Tordino and Vomano valleys. The organization, managed by Team Eventi Ciclismo with Team Go Fast and local clubs, deployed about 180 safety personnel at intersections. The day concluded with a pasta party and awards ceremony, including prizes for the "Him&Her" category and the largest teams. The success of the event led to the confirmation of the 2027 edition.
The start is in San Nicolò a Tordino, a district of Teramo. By car, it can be reached via the A24 motorway (Teramo exit) or the SS80 state road; the motorway toll booth is just a few minutes away. The Giulianova railway station, on the Adriatic line, is about 20 km away and is connected to Teramo.
Registration is handled via the Kronoservice platform. Fees for the first edition ranged from 25 euros (early bird) to 35 euros (standard), with discounted rates for Granfondo Marche circuit subscribers, "Him&Her" couples, and ACSI groups; a non-timed cyclotourist rate is also available. As this is a spring event in early March, we recommend wearing clothing suitable for the still-cool temperatures of the Teramo hills. A helmet is mandatory, and an amateur circuit membership card is required for the competitive race.
