Gnocchi Festival

A festival dedicated to handmade gnocchi

The Gnocchi Festival is the most anticipated gastronomic event in Borgoratto Alessandrino, a small town in the province of Alessandria, in the heart of southeastern Piedmont. For over fifteen years, at the beginning of July, the town center transforms into a large open-air restaurant where the absolute star is a dish as simple as it is refined: the potato gnocchi, strictly prepared by hand.

Gnocchi in every style

The secret of the festival lies in the artisanal process. The cooks and volunteers of the Pro Loco knead the gnocchi by hand because—as the organizers remind us—knowing how to make good gnocchi is an art where raw materials are essential, but manual skill and time are also required. The menu offers a rich variety of sauces:

• Pesto, the most beloved and traditional version
• Sausage and mushroom
• Truffle
• Castelmagno, the famous Piedmontese DOP cheese
• Colorful specialties such as spinach or beetroot (red turnip) gnocchi

In addition to gnocchi, the food stalls offer main courses, traditional desserts, local wines from the Alessandria area, and a bar service.

Live music and evenings in the square

The festival is not just about gastronomy: every evening, in Piazza Roma, after dinner, there is dancing and live music. Concerts and DJ sets liven up the evenings until late at night, always with free entry, in a village festival atmosphere that involves all generations.

Organized by Pro Loco Borgoratto in collaboration with the Municipal Administration, the Gnocchi Festival is a perfect example of the conviviality that characterizes Piedmontese festivals: genuine food, affordable prices, and many people sitting at the same tables. It is no coincidence that many editions are completely sold out. An ideal opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the province of Alessandria, far from mass tourism circuits.
