The grand season of drama, musicals, and dance at the Gorizia theater
Overlooking Via Garibaldi, the Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theater has been Gorizia's main cultural venue for over a century. This city, a symbol of the eastern border and now a European Capital of Culture alongside neighboring Nova Gorica, hosts a theatrical season that is a benchmark for the audiences of Gorizia and the entire Isontino area, running from October until late spring.
The program is curated by the Artisti Associati company, under the artistic direction of Walter Mramor, in collaboration with the Municipality of Gorizia. In recent years, the season has grown to nearly thirty events, reflecting an increasingly broad offering capable of appealing to diverse tastes and generations.
The season is organized into sections that span various stage genres. Drama remains the core of the programming, featuring classic and contemporary texts performed by well-known names in Italian theater. Alongside this, the Music and Ballet section brings dance and musical productions to Gorizia, while the Major Events host musicals and high-profile shows, from the illusions of Arturo Brachetti to the most celebrated titles in the genre.
There are also events dedicated to families with Verdi Young, the Sunday afternoon children's theater series, and in-depth talks with Verdi Racconta, which complement the stage performances with moments of reflection and storytelling, often featuring prominent interpreters like Neri Marcorè.
More than just a program, the Verdi season is a piece of Gorizia's cultural identity: a place where the city recognizes itself and comes together, in a historical period when the Isontino capital is looking with renewed energy to its role as a cultural bridge between Italy and Slovenia. For visitors to Gorizia during the season months, an evening at the Teatro Verdi is the best way to connect with the city's cultural life.
The 2025/2026 Season of the Giuseppe Verdi Municipal Theater of Gorizia features 29 performances scheduled from October 2025 to April 2026, divided into the sections Drama, Music and Ballet, Major Events, Verdi Young (children's theater), and Verdi Racconta. The artistic direction is entrusted to Walter Mramor for the Artisti Associati company.
Among the highlights of the season's opening are "Trieste 1954" with Simone Cristicchi and the musical "Singin' in the Rain." For the 2026 part of the season, notable shows include "Othello," "Some Like It Hot," the quick-change performance "SOLO - The Legend of quick-change" by Arturo Brachetti, "Carmina Burana," and the tribute to Giorgio Gaber with Neri Marcorè.
