Giro del Nizza: A journey into the heart of Nizza DOCG

The Giro del Nizza is the premier spring event dedicated to Nizza DOCG, the great red wine made from Barbera grapes that originates in the Monferrato hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The event takes place in Nizza Monferrato, in the province of Asti, in the heart of Piedmont, transforming the entire territory into an open-air route between vineyards, cellars, and barrel rooms. Organized by the Enoteca Regionale di Nizza in collaboration with Slow Food Alessandria and the Colline Nicesi association, the event has become a classic of the Piedmontese wine tourism season.

Two days among the cellars

The format features two distinct days, each dedicated to a different group of producers. Participants receive a tasting kit and move independently, according to their own pace and interests, from one cellar to the next. They are welcomed by the winemakers themselves, who share insights into their work in the vineyard, aging techniques in wood, and the secrets behind Nizza and Nizza Riserva. It is a direct and convivial way to meet the people behind the wine and discover hidden corners of the landscape that are otherwise inaccessible.

The Nizza territory

Nizza DOCG is produced in a restricted area comprising eighteen municipalities around Nizza Monferrato: a prime viticultural zone where nearly one hundred producers operate, yielding approximately one million bottles annually. Walking or traveling through these hills during the Giro means experiencing firsthand the deep bond between the Barbera grape and its chosen landscape. Participating cellars rotate daily, allowing those who wish to attend both dates to complete the full picture of local producers.

A complete food and wine experience

Beyond cellar tastings, the Giro del Nizza is enriched by festive moments and gatherings in the center of Nizza Monferrato, featuring culinary offerings tied to typical Monferrato products. While wine is the protagonist, the experience also embraces local cuisine, rural traditions, and the hospitality of the Asti hills.
