Granfondo and gravel in the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines, in Bagno di Romagna
The Giro del Mito - ElectricLine is the cycling event that transforms Bagno di Romagna, a spa town in the province of Forlì-Cesena in Emilia-Romagna, into a grand celebration on two wheels every year. Organized by the River22 Sporting Club, with the patronage of the Municipality of Bagno di Romagna, the Union of Municipalities of the Savio Valley, and the Casentinesi Forests National Park, the event attracts hundreds of enthusiasts from all over Italy and abroad each year.
The event takes place over two days. Saturday is dedicated to the gravel ride, a non-competitive cycling tour of about 60 km and 1,500 meters of elevation gain, open to gravel bikes, mountain bikes, and e-bikes, which winds through the dirt roads and trails of the Casentinesi Forests. Sunday is the day of the granfondo, with two routes to choose from: a long, challenging one, and a shorter, more accessible one. Both share the most anticipated finale, the Selvapiana time trial, six kilometers with an average gradient of 7.8% and peaks up to 12%, where the classification is decided.
The beating heart of the event is Piazza Ricasoli, which hosts the expo area with technical stands and food trucks, live radio broadcast, team presentation, and evening entertainment with music and DJ sets. The pasta party, wellness sessions at the Parco delle Fonti, and the presence of guests from the cycling world complete a program designed to engage athletes, companions, and curious onlookers.
The Giro del Mito is also an opportunity to discover Bagno di Romagna and the Alta Valle del Savio, a territory of historic thermal baths, ancient forests, and Apennine traditions. Cycling here means crossing landscapes that connect Romagna and Tuscany, in one of the most evocative corners of the Apennines.
The second edition of the Giro del Mito - ElectricLine confirmed the event's growth: over 600 participants aged 18 to 77, representing 9 nations, 13 Italian regions, 51 provinces, and 224 sports clubs. Among the guests was former professional cyclist Evgenij Berzin, winner of the 1994 Giro d'Italia, and Eurosport commentators Riccardo Magrini and Luca Gregorio. The two days, blessed by public participation, combined sport, territory, and conviviality in the heart of the Tuscan-Romagnol Apennines.
Two granfondo routes: long at 133.5 km with 3,001 m elevation gain and short at 69.6 km with 1,513 m elevation gain. Both end with the Selvapiana time trial (6 km at 7.8% average gradient, with peaks up to 12%).
The absolute debut of the gravel ride on Saturday, the presence of former champion Evgenij Berzin, and the spectacular final Selvapiana time trial. Among the granfondo winners, on the long route Alberto Nardin (3h48'36") and Roberta Bussone, on the short route Manuel Senni and Eleonora Calvi Di Coenzo.
