A night for the youth in Contrada Canali, in the heart of the Montemarano summer
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Giovani sotto le Stelle is the evening that transforms the Contrada Canali in Montemarano, in the province of Avellino, into a large open-air gathering space every August. The event is organized by the Pro Loco 2.0 together with the local youth and is designed specifically for them: music, conversation, and plenty of food and drinks under the Irpinian sky, with no entry fees or formalities.
The event has a longer history than its informal nature might suggest: the edition held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, was the twenty-second, a rare milestone for an event born from the initiative of young people in a small town in upper Irpinia. Year after year, the formula has remained unchanged—a single night in the countryside, open to everyone—and this very simplicity has made it one of the most awaited events of the Montemarano summer. Those returning to the village for their holidays know that this is the night to reunite with old friends.
The heart of the evening is the music: DJ sets keep the crowd entertained until late at night, while areas dedicated to drinks and street food allow guests to dine outdoors at their leisure. There is no grand festival stage or high-brow programming here; instead, there is the atmosphere of a contemporary village party, where the fun comes from being together and the volunteer work of the organizers.
Giovani sotto le Stelle is not an isolated event: it is part of «rEstate a Montemarano», the summer calendar that the municipality builds each year in collaboration with local associations. In 2025, the program ran from June 20 to September 28; in 2026, now in its fourteenth edition, it spans from June 25 to September 27, with events distributed between the Bosco dei Morroni, Contrada Canali, and the Municipal Amphitheater. Alongside the youth night, the schedule includes the Forest and Emigrant Festival, the patronal celebrations of San Giovanni, and, at the end of the season, the Aglianico Festival in the historic center.
The municipality of Montemarano is one of the most characteristic villages in Irpinia and inland Campania. Its national fame is tied primarily to the Montemarano Carnival, with the local tarantella that leads masked processions through the village streets every winter, and to viticulture: we are in the heart of the Aglianico wine region, celebrated in September by a dedicated festival that reached its 41st edition in 2025. Those arriving in summer discover another side of the village, defined by open-air evenings, woodlands, food festivals, and local neighborhood parties like this one.
At the time of publication, the date for the new edition of Giovani sotto le Stelle has not yet been announced. The evening traditionally takes place in August as part of the municipal summer program: to find out the exact date, it is best to follow the channels of the Pro Loco 2.0 of Montemarano and the municipal announcements, which usually publish the full summer program at the end of June.
For 2026, Giovani sotto le Stelle has not yet announced a date. However, the event is a permanent fixture of the summer in Montemarano, in the province of Avellino: the Pro Loco 2.0 and the local youth organize it every year in Contrada Canali, usually around the middle of August.
The setting is that of «rEstate a Montemarano», the municipal summer program which reaches its fourteenth edition in 2026 and is scheduled from June 25 to September 27, with events at the Bosco dei Morroni, in Contrada Canali, and at the Municipal Amphitheater.
Those who wish to attend can follow the channels of the Pro Loco 2.0 and the Municipality of Montemarano: that is where the date, times, and details of the evening are announced. In previous editions, admission has always been free, with DJ sets, drinks, and street food until late at night.
The evening takes place outdoors in Contrada Canali, just outside the town center of Montemarano (AV). The most convenient way to reach it is by car: parking is available in the areas indicated by the organizers along the road. As this is an evening event in the hills, a light sweater may be useful even in August.
Admission is free. Drinks and street food can be purchased at the stands set up for the occasion.
The event is part of the «rEstate a Montemarano» program: visitors from out of town can combine it with other August events, such as the Forest and Emigrant Festival at the Bosco dei Morroni or the celebrations in honor of San Giovanni.
