About Corcolle Carnival

The Giardini di Corcolle Carnival is a local neighborhood festival that transforms the streets of this eastern Roman suburb into a vibrant procession of confetti, costumes, and music every February. Organized by the Giardini di Corcolle Neighborhood Committee in partnership with the San Michele Arcangelo parish and supported by the BCC di Roma, it is an afternoon designed for families: children in costume, parents, and volunteers parade together to Piazza Mondavio, the heart of the neighborhood's social life. A free, simple, and deeply community-driven event.

A festival born from the neighborhood

The Giardini di Corcolle Carnival is not an institutional event or a postcard-perfect float parade; it is a celebration built by the neighborhood itself. It is organized by the Giardini di Corcolle Neighborhood Committee, a highly active volunteer group in the eastern part of the Municipality of Rome, which every year mobilizes residents, parents, and youth to fill the district's streets with color during the Carnival weekend. The San Michele Arcangelo parish provides space and hospitality, while the concrete support of the BCC di Roma covers organizational costs, keeping admission completely free.

Where it takes place: Corcolle, eastern suburbs of Rome

Giardini di Corcolle is a residential district in the Municipio VI delle Torri, in the eastern outskirts of Rome, Lazio, not far from the border with Tivoli and the Villa Adriana archaeological area. It is a young, rapidly growing neighborhood where civic life and citizens' committees play a crucial role in holding the community together. This is precisely why the Carnival takes on a meaning here that goes beyond a simple costume party: it is one of the moments of the year when the neighborhood truly recognizes itself as a community.

The costume parade

The heart of the event is the costume parade, which winds along Via Sant'Elpidio a Mare to conclude in Piazza Mondavio, the main square of Giardini di Corcolle. For the occasion, both streets are pedestrianized in the early afternoon and the 042 bus line is temporarily divertedโ€”a sign that the event is now recognized by the Capitoline administration, which includes it in official traffic bulletins for the Carnival weekend.

  • Costumed procession open to children, families, and neighborhood associations
  • Entertainment and music along the route, with confetti and streamers
  • Arrival at Piazza Mondavio, where the afternoon continues with games and social activities
  • Free and open participation, no registration or tickets required

An afternoon for families

The tone of the festival is deliberately simple and child-friendly: no massive stages, just an afternoon of smiles, colors, and united families, as described by the Committee volunteers themselves after the most recent edition. Participation is high and inclusive, with parents accompanying their little ones in costume and residents watching from their windows along the route. It is one of those occasions where you can clearly feel the strength of a neighborhood community that chooses to come together in the streets.

Rome's local Carnival

Alongside the major Carnival events in the center of Rome, the capital preserves a dense network of neighborhood carnivals organized by committees, parishes, and associations in the peripheral districts. The Giardini di Corcolle Carnival fully belongs to this tradition: self-funded events, built on volunteer work, offering local children a real celebration without having to travel to the city center. For those visiting the area east of Rome during the Carnival period, it is an authentic opportunity to see the daily, supportive face of the city.

Tips for participants

The event is concentrated in a short window of time, typically the early afternoon of Carnival Sunday: it is advisable to arrive a little early to find a spot along Via Sant'Elpidio a Mare. Costumes are highly recommended but not mandatory, and children's participation is the true focus of the event. Updated information on dates, times, and routes is published by the Neighborhood Committee on their social media channels in the weeks leading up to the event.

Corcolle Carnival โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Giardini di Corcolle Carnival took place on Sunday, February 15, with the costume parade starting from Via Sant'Elpidio a Mare and ending in Piazza Mondavio. An afternoon of smiles, colors, happy children, and united families, as recounted by the Neighborhood Committee volunteers, who thanked the San Michele Arcangelo parish for its hospitality and the BCC di Roma for its concrete support of the initiative.

2026 Carnival in Giardini di Corcolle

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, the Giardini di Corcolle neighborhood, in Rome's Municipio VI delle Torri, held its Carnival event with the traditional costume parade. The procession started from Via Sant'Elpidio a Mare and reached Piazza Mondavio, the heart of the district, for an afternoon entirely dedicated to children and families.

To allow the event to take place, Roma Capitale ordered the pedestrianization of Via Sant'Elpidio a Mare and Piazza Mondavio from approximately 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, with temporary diversion of bus lines: the 042 was turned into a circular route with a single terminus on Via Cerquete, while lines 107 (from Grotte Celoni) and 508 (from Ponte Mammolo) established their temporary terminus on Via Polense, skipping seven stops on Via Sant'Elpidio a Mare.

The organization was managed by the Giardini di Corcolle Neighborhood Committee, with the collaboration and hospitality of the San Michele Arcangelo parish and the support of the BCC di Roma, which made it possible to keep the festival free and open to all.
