About General States of Cinema

The General States of Cinema (and Film Tourism) were launched in Pellezzano, in the province of Salerno, in September 2025: three days of meetings, screenings, workshops, and debates split between the Eremo dello Spirito Santo museum complex in the village of Capriglia and the Cinema Teatro Charlot in Capezzano. Actors, producers, journalists, and administrators discuss the relationship between the big screen and regional promotion, in an event commissioned by the Municipality of Pellezzano together with DLiveMedia and previewed at the Venice Film Festival.

The General States of Cinema in Pellezzano

The General States of Cinema (and Film Tourism) is a film festival launched by the Municipality of Pellezzano, in the province of Salerno, in September 2025, in collaboration with the production company DLiveMedia. Previewed during the Venice Film Festival, the event brings together actors, directors, producers, journalists, and administrators for three days to focus on a specific theme: the relationship between the big screen and the promotion of local territories.

This is not a competitive festival with awards, but rather a laboratory of ideas featuring meetings, screenings, workshops, and debates open to local schools. The formula brings the Campania region, and specifically the Irno Valley, into the national debate on cinema as a lever for cultural and economic development.

Two Iconic Venues

The event is spread across two locations that perfectly reflect the identity of the municipality:

  • Eremo dello Spirito Santo Museum Complex, in the hillside village of Capriglia: the heart of the event, hosting institutional meetings and guest panels, as well as being one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Irno Valley.
  • Cinema Teatro Charlot, in the village of Capezzano: hosts screenings and evening events open to the public.

The First Edition, September 2025

The inaugural edition took place from Friday, September 26 to Sunday, September 28, 2025, preceded by a preview on Thursday, September 25 at 7:45 PM at the Cinema Teatro Charlot with the screening of Queen Rock Montreal, introduced by journalist Luca Dondoni and presented by Radio Rai host Valeria Saggese.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Eremo dello Spirito Santo took place on Friday, September 26 at 11:00 AM, with speeches by Claudio Gubitosi, director of the Giffoni Film Festival, and Virgilio D'Antonio, rector of the University of Salerno, in front of students from the Pellezzano Comprehensive Institute and the «Sabatini-Menna» Art High School in Salerno. Over the three days, guests included Sergio Rubini, Giovanni Esposito, Giorgio Pasotti, Lunetta Savino, Ettore Bassi, Adriano Pantaleo, Pierluigi Gigante, Bianca Nappi, and manager and author Daniele Orazi. The closing ceremony on Sunday, September 28, was led by Ettore Bassi.

Film Tourism at the Heart of the Debate

The second part of the event's name is significant: film tourism—the ability of a film or series to transform a location into a travel destination—is the common thread of the entire festival. In the first edition, a specific session was dedicated to this topic on the morning of Saturday, September 27, with the participation of actress Bianca Nappi. It is a particularly relevant theme in Campania, a region that has always been one of the most filmed locations in Italian cinema and television.

Organizers and Supporters

The artistic direction is led by Roberto Vargiu for DLiveMedia, who has been the driving force behind other cultural events in Pellezzano. The organization is headed by the Municipality of Pellezzano, led by Mayor Francesco Morra, with the support of the Campania Region, the Province of Salerno, and ANCI, and sponsored by Banca Monte Pruno.

Part of the «September at the Eremo» Program

In 2025, the General States of Cinema concluded the «September at the Eremo» program, a series of events through which the Municipality of Pellezzano enlivened the monumental complex during the last month of summer, alongside events such as the Akasha Yoga Festival, the «Danza e Memoria» evening, and the Campania Gin Fest.

Towards the Second Edition

At the end of the three-day event, the municipal administration announced its intention to continue the festival the following year as part of a broader strategy for the cultural and tourism promotion of the area. As of the update of this page, however, neither official dates nor the program for the 2026 edition have been published: the reference period remains the month of September, but it is advisable to check announcements from the Municipality of Pellezzano before planning your visit.

General States of Cinema — edition 2026

Following the first edition in September 2025, the Municipality of Pellezzano has announced its intention to host the General States of Cinema and Film Tourism again. As of the update of this page, no official dates or program for 2026 have been published: the reference remains the month of September, between the Eremo dello Spirito Santo in Capriglia and the Cinema Teatro Charlot in Capezzano. It is recommended to check announcements from the Municipality and the local Salerno press before organizing your visit.

The 2026 edition of the General States of Cinema and Film Tourism in Pellezzano, in the province of Salerno, has not yet been officially announced. At the end of the first edition, which concluded on September 28, 2025, the municipal administration led by Mayor Francesco Morra expressed its intention to continue the event the following year as part of a broader cultural and tourism promotion program for the territory.

In the absence of official communications, we are not reporting dates or a program: the indicated reference month is September, with the two historic venues of the festival, the Eremo dello Spirito Santo museum complex in Capriglia and the Cinema Teatro Charlot in Capezzano. We will update this page as soon as the Municipality of Pellezzano and DLiveMedia release the final calendar.

Practical information — General States of Cinema

Location

Pellezzano is a municipality in the Irno Valley, in the province of Salerno, just a few kilometers from the provincial capital. Events are divided between the Eremo dello Spirito Santo museum complex in the hillside village of Capriglia and the Cinema Teatro Charlot in the village of Capezzano.

How to Get There

  • By car: Reach Salerno via the A2 del Mediterraneo motorway, then head up the Irno Valley towards Pellezzano; for the Eremo, the final climb to Capriglia is narrow and scenic, so it is best to leave early.

  • By plane: Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi Airport in Pontecagnano and Naples-Capodichino Airport.

Tickets

For the 2025 edition, no entry fees were announced: it is advisable to check access methods and any booking requirements with the Municipality of Pellezzano when the program is released.

Tips

  • The days at the Eremo are mostly outdoors and during the day: wear comfortable shoes and bring a light jacket for the evening.
  • Pellezzano is an excellent base for combining your visit with trips to Salerno, the Amalfi Coast, and the villages of the Irno Valley.
  • The detailed program is primarily distributed through the Municipality's channels and the local Salerno press: it is worth following them in the weeks leading up to the event.
