About Gelato Week

For one week, Rome transforms into a delicious map to be explored cone in hand. With a single ticket, you can visit the city's best artisanal gelato shops, each offering an exclusive flavor created specifically for the event and inspired by the tastes of the Lazio region and Roman traditions. Gelato Week, conceived by ConGelato, combines tasting, gelato culture, and the discovery of the Capital's neighborhoods, from the historic center to the most hidden corners.

A week of artisanal gelato in Rome

Gelato Week is the event that transforms Rome every spring into a widespread itinerary dedicated to artisanal gelato. It is not a fair confined to a pavilion: the city itself, with its historic gelato shops and new signature spots, becomes the stage for the event. Participants purchase a ticket, choose a route, and set off to discover the shops one after another, sampling a creation designed exclusively for those days at each stop.

The concept was born in Milan in 2023 from the ConGelato platform, founded by Isaac Zarfati, and in just a few years, it has expanded to eleven Italian cities. Rome joined the circuit in 2025 with ten selected gelato shops and saw its edition grow to eighteen stops in 2026: a sign of how vibrant and competitive the artisanal gelato scene in the Capital is today.

How it works: routes, tickets, and exclusive flavors

The mechanism is simple, and that is its greatest strength. The participating gelato shops are divided into thematic routes that cross different areas of the city; each participant chooses their itinerary and, with a single ticket, can enjoy a gelato at each of the shops included. There are two options: the cup, which is more essential, and the cone, which allows for a few more flavors and the freedom to choose between a cone or a cup.

The true standout feature, however, is the limited-edition flavor: for the duration of the event only, every gelato shop showcases a recipe created specifically for the occasion, inspired by the territory, typical Lazio products, or Roman imagery. These are gelatos you won't find the rest of the year, often born from serious research into raw materials.

The featured gelato shops

The Roman list brings together established names and more recent ventures. The names involved in the 2026 edition include Torcé, Günther Gelato Italiano, Borghese, Fiordiluna, Fonte della Salute, Rosamundi, Zelato, Manny's, Cremeria Aurelia, Come il Latte, Al Settimo Gelo, Cremilla, Criollo, Il Bistrot del Gelato, Gelasio, Stefano Ferrara, La Gourmandise, Giuffrè, and Il Pellicano.

  • Eighteen stops distributed across the historic center, Prati, Trastevere, Aurelio, and other neighborhoods
  • One limited-edition flavor for every gelato shop
  • Routes designed as a pretext to walk and discover less touristy corners
  • Extended opening hours, generally from 10 AM until evening

More than just tastings: masterclasses and side events

A program of in-depth activities revolves around the tastings. The Gelato Week Experiences, created in collaboration with Eataly, offer lessons and meetings led by some of the best Italian gelato makers: you will learn how to recognize a well-made gelato, how to read ingredients, and how to understand the difference between true artisanal quality and disguised industrial products.

The week also opens with Fuori Gelato, an appointment primarily reserved for industry professionals hosted at the Carpigiani Gelato University, where the gelato makers from the previous edition compete before a jury.

Why it's worth it

Gelato Week is not just a discounted tasting tour: it is an intelligent way to tell the story of a product that is part of daily life in Rome but rarely looked at with such attention. The itinerant format rewards curiosity, encourages you to enter neighborhood shops you might never have sought out, and gives back a piece of the Capital's gastronomic culture. It is an experience suitable for couples, groups of friends, and families, and it works particularly well in April, when Roman days grow longer and walking through the city becomes a pleasure again.

Gelato Week — edition 2026

The 2026 Roman edition of Gelato Week involved eighteen artisanal gelato shops distributed throughout the city, each with a limited-edition flavor inspired by typical Lazio products and the Capital's traditions. With a single ticket, participants were able to follow their own itinerary and taste the gelatos created specifically for the event, amidst masterclasses at Eataly and the professional challenge of Fuori Gelato.

Gelato Week Rome 2026

From April 14 to 19, 2026, Rome hosted the second city edition of Gelato Week, which grew from the ten gelato shops of 2025 to the eighteen stops of 2026. The event, promoted by ConGelato, took place simultaneously in eleven Italian cities, but the Capital was among the venues with the most proposals.

Each participating gelato shop presented a limited-edition recipe available only for those six days, built around ingredients and inspirations from the Lazio region. Participants chose a route and, with a single ticket, tasted the gelatos from the shops included, generally open from 10 AM to 8 PM.
