Three evenings celebrating Gela's traditional bread and the authentic flavors of the region
The Gela Bread Festival is a food and wine event that celebrates one of the deepest symbols of the city's identity: Gela bread. Organized by the Municipality of Gela, in the heart of the Caltanissetta province in Sicily, the festival transforms the Belvedere of Gela on Viale Mediterraneo into a vibrant path of taste and culture, set against the backdrop of a Mediterranean sunset.
At the heart of the event is Gela bread, prepared with ancient Sicilian grains according to methods passed down through generations. Alongside the bread, the stands offer a variety of local delicacies: wine, honey, preserves, pastries, oils, and artisanal specialties. The local dialect slogan, «U Signure ni desi u pani, e niatri ci facemmu a festa» (The Lord gave us bread, and we celebrate it), perfectly captures the popular and identity-driven spirit of the event.
The Gela Bread Festival was created to promote the gastronomic and cultural heritage of the area and to rediscover the authentic flavors of local tradition. The initiative is promoted by the Municipality of Gela in collaboration with trade associations and local cultural entities, representing an eagerly awaited annual appointment for the Gela community and visitors to central-southern Sicily.
The 2026 Gela Bread Festival is organized by the Municipality of Gela in collaboration with local trade associations and cultural entities. The event takes place over three evenings at the Belvedere of Gela, along Viale Mediterraneo, open daily from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM.
The absolute star is Gela bread, made with ancient Sicilian grains, accompanied by wine, honey, preserves, pastries, oils, and other local specialties. Visitors can enjoy tastings, visit the bread-making museum and a photography exhibition, and attend the conference dedicated to the future of Gela bread.
The event spans three evenings (June 27, 28, and 29, 2026), daily from 6:00 PM to 12:00 AM, at the Belvedere of Gela along Viale Mediterraneo.
The detailed program of performances and musical guests will be announced by the Municipality of Gela in the days leading up to the event.
