About Eau — Ana Silva

GAMeC, the Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Bergamo, presents "Eau", the first solo exhibition in an Italian institution by Angolan-Portuguese artist Ana Silva. Visible from February 25 to September 2026 in Spazio Zero, the exhibition uses the language of embroidery to denounce water scarcity and transform it into a symbolic image of a denied human need. The exhibition inaugurates GAMeC's 2026 interdisciplinary program, "Pedagogy of Hope," and is based on a co-creation process involving a network of local embroiderers, valuing traditional knowledge and territorial relationships.

Ana Silva at GAMeC

GAMeC in Bergamo, one of Italy's leading institutions dedicated to modern and contemporary art, presents Eau in Spazio Zero, the first solo exhibition in an Italian institution by Angolan-Portuguese artist Ana Silva. An opportunity to discover an original voice on the international art scene, who uses embroidery and fabric as her language.

Embroidery as Protest

The first room features the artist's most recent works, from 2024 to 2026, created on non-woven fabric and crinoline. The embroideries, details of glitter and sequins, and figures—fragile presences set within geometric patterns—construct a delicate yet incisive visual tapestry. Through these elements, the language of embroidery denounces water scarcity and transforms it into a symbolic image of a denied human need, a theme of dramatic global relevance.

Pedagogy of Hope

The exhibition puts into practice the principles of GAMeC's new 2026 interdisciplinary program, titled Pedagogy of Hope and focused on education as a practice of freedom and transformation. The collaborative dimension is an integral part of the work: Ana Silva initiates a co-creation process involving a network of local embroiderers, valuing traditional skills and territorial relationships.

Contemporary Art in Bergamo

With this exhibition, GAMeC confirms its role as a laboratory for contemporary art in the heart of Bergamo, at the foot of Città Alta. "Eau" remains visible until September 2026; it will be followed by an exhibition by Selma Selman, a Bosnian artist of Roma origin. A program that makes the Orobic capital a reference point for the most current artistic research.
