About Gaggi Carnival

The Gaggi Carnival is the popular festival that brings winter evenings to life every year in this small town in the Alcantara Valley, in the province of Messina. With parades of allegorical floats, live music, colorful costumes, and great community involvement, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele transforms into a large open-air stage. It is an event that blends tradition, creativity, and a renewed spirit of social cohesion.

The Gaggi Carnival: tradition and creativity in Sicily

The Gaggi Carnival is one of the most cherished events in the winter calendar of the town of Gaggi, located in the green heart of the Alcantara Valley, in the province of Messina, just a few kilometers from Taormina. For two evenings, the town center comes alive with color, music, and joy, attracting families, children, and visitors from neighboring towns.

Allegorical floats and parades in the square

The heart of the festival is the parade of allegorical floats, true moving narrative architectures crafted with great attention to detail and impressive scenography. These creations, the result of the work of local artisans and performers, travel through the town streets to gather in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, which is transformed for the occasion into a grand open-air stage.

Music, entertainment, and community celebration

Beyond the parades, the Gaggi Carnival offers musical entertainment with DJs and performers, shows, and festive moments aimed at audiences of all ages. The event is much more than a simple recreational gathering: it represents an authentic laboratory of social interaction, capable of restoring a renewed sense of collective belonging to the community, where tradition and creative drive merge into a choral village story.

A local event

In recent years, the organization has been managed by the Next Gaggi Association, with the organizational and logistical support of the Gaggi Municipal Administration. The festival is part of the rich panorama of Sicilian carnivals and enhances the identity of a small village in the Metropolitan City of Messina, nestled among citrus groves and the landscapes of the Alcantara Valley.

Gaggi and the Alcantara Valley

Gaggi is a small town of just over three thousand inhabitants, situated at an altitude of about one hundred meters in the heart of the green Alcantara Valley, where waters flow between citrus groves and ancient lava stone villages. Its location, a short distance from Taormina and Giardini Naxos, makes it a natural passage point between the Ionian Sea and the Etna hinterland. It is in this context that the Carnival takes on a special value, as it brings together not only the local population but also visitors from neighboring towns, helping to strengthen local ties.

Why attend

Those who choose to experience the Gaggi Carnival will find an authentic, town-scale festival, far from the more touristy dimensions of the large Sicilian carnivals but rich in warmth and spontaneity. The evenings, free and open to everyone, are designed especially for families and children, with colorful floats, masks, music, and social opportunities that make this event one of the most anticipated appointments of the Gaggi winter.
