The flavors of the Sicani land in the heart of Cattolica Eraclea
The Fruits of the Earth Festival is a summer highlight in Cattolica Eraclea, a small town in the province of Agrigento nestled within the Sicani region along the Platani river valley. The event was created to showcase local agricultural heritage and promote the Mediterranean diet within the Sicani tradition, in an area renowned for the quality of its produce and the longevity of its inhabitants.
The center of the festivities is the Giardino della Memoria, which transforms into a vibrant display of colors and scents for the occasion. Among the stalls set up by the local Pro Loco and producers, visitors can admire and taste seasonal vegetables and fruits: every product tells the story of a generous land, from melons and prickly pears to garden vegetables, as well as oils, cheeses, and traditional peasant pastries.
The Fruits of the Earth Festival is part of the broader "Paths of Long-Life Food" circuit, a series of events spanning over twenty towns in the Sicani Mountains, featuring festivals, tastings, and initiatives dedicated to agricultural heritage and the Mediterranean diet. The project, involving the Sapori Sicani network, weaves together gastronomy, culture, and tourism, highlighting how the quality of food and the lifestyle of these villages are linked to the region's record-breaking longevity.
The festival is a community celebration, brought to life by the participation of local families and producers. Between stalls of local specialties, the aromas of Sicilian cuisine, and moments of conviviality, the event offers visitors an authentic opportunity to discover the rural culture of Cattolica Eraclea and the hospitality of inland Sicily.
Located between Agrigento and Sciacca, near the archaeological site of Eraclea Minoa and the mouth of the Platani river, Cattolica Eraclea is one of the gateways to the Sicani region. Visiting the festival also means discovering a lesser-known corner of Sicily, defined by agricultural landscapes, farming traditions, and genuine flavors, far from the main tourist crowds.
The 2026 Fruits of the Earth Festival returns to Cattolica Eraclea on July 26 and 27, 2026, confirming its place among the summer food and wine events in the Sicani region. The event, hosted at the Giardino della Memoria, celebrates local agricultural heritage with stalls of local products, fruits, and seasonal vegetables.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including schedules and initiatives, will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event through the channels of the Pro Loco and the Municipality of Cattolica Eraclea.
The Fruits of the Earth Festival is held at the Giardino della Memoria in Cattolica Eraclea (AG), in the heart of the Sicani region.
By car: Cattolica Eraclea can be reached via the SS115 (Agrigento-Sciacca) road, taking the exit towards the town. The nearest airport is Palermo "Falcone-Borsellino", about a two-hour drive away; Agrigento is approximately 40 km away.
Admission to the festival is generally free. We recommend light summer clothing and combining your visit with an exploration of the Sicani Mountain villages and the archaeological site of Eraclea Minoa.
