About Fregnaccio Festival

Every summer, the La Valle district of Anguillara Sabazia revives one of the most beloved traditions of this village overlooking Lake Bracciano: the Fregnaccio Festival. The star of the show is the 'fregnaccio anguillarese', a thin dough cooked on a griddle, stuffed, and served piping hot, available in savory versions with pecorino cheese or sweet varieties. With food stalls, concerts, lakeside games, and guided tours of the historic center, the festival brings Piazza del Lavatoio and the district's alleys to life for a full weekend in July.

The Fregnaccio Festival, the heart of Anguillara's summer

In the height of summer, the historic center of Anguillara Sabazia, one of the most charming villages overlooking Lake Bracciano in the province of Rome, comes alive with the Fregnaccio Festival. Organized with passion by the young people of the La Valle district, the event has become a staple of the Lazio summer calendar: an authentic neighborhood festival born to rediscover and pass down local culinary customs.

What is a fregnaccio?

The fregnaccio anguillarese is a humble dish from the peasant tradition: a simple dough made of water, flour, and oil, cooked on a hot griddle and served strictly hot. In the classic version, it is rolled up with plenty of grated pecorino, but over the years, the festival has introduced numerous variations, both savory and sweet, including a delicious chocolate version. It is a simple, convivial street food that captures the town's popular spirit.

More than just food

The Fregnaccio Festival is much more than a feast for the palate. The program, curated entirely by the local youth, weaves together taste, culture, and life on the lake. Alongside the food stalls, various initiatives are featured each year:

  • Lakeside activities: fishing competitions, canoe and dragon boat trials, rescue demonstrations, and awareness-raising moments regarding the Bracciano ecosystem;
  • Culture and guided tours: extraordinary openings of the village's iconic landmarks, from the Orsini Baronial Palace to the Museum of Peasant Civilization, as well as the collegiate church and the alleys of the historic center;
  • Music and shows: concerts, DJ sets, and themed evenings that liven up Piazza del Lavatoio until late at night;
  • Spaces for the young: games, tournaments, and entertainment for children and teenagers.

A lakeside village to discover

The festival is also the perfect opportunity to visit Anguillara Sabazia, whose historic center climbs a promontory overlooking the water, offering some of the most photographed views of Lake Bracciano. Strolling through the alleys of the La Valle district, with the scent of freshly cooked fregnacci and the view of the lake, is an authentic way to experience the tradition of this corner of Lazio.

Fregnaccio Festival — edition 2026

The La Valle district is preparing a new edition of the Fregnaccio Festival in Anguillara Sabazia, traditionally scheduled for the last weeks of July. As every year, the village on Lake Bracciano prepares to host the famous fregnaccio stalls, along with music, culture, and lakeside activities. Official dates and the detailed program have not yet been released by the organizers.

The 2026 edition of the Fregnaccio Festival has not yet been officially announced by the La Valle district. Based on tradition, the festival should return as usual in July, in the historic center of Anguillara Sabazia, on Lake Bracciano. Check back on this page for confirmed dates and the detailed program as soon as they are published.
