The gastronomic celebration of the La Valle district on Lake Bracciano
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the height of summer, the historic center of Anguillara Sabazia, one of the most charming villages overlooking Lake Bracciano in the province of Rome, comes alive with the Fregnaccio Festival. Organized with passion by the young people of the La Valle district, the event has become a staple of the Lazio summer calendar: an authentic neighborhood festival born to rediscover and pass down local culinary customs.
The fregnaccio anguillarese is a humble dish from the peasant tradition: a simple dough made of water, flour, and oil, cooked on a hot griddle and served strictly hot. In the classic version, it is rolled up with plenty of grated pecorino, but over the years, the festival has introduced numerous variations, both savory and sweet, including a delicious chocolate version. It is a simple, convivial street food that captures the town's popular spirit.
The Fregnaccio Festival is much more than a feast for the palate. The program, curated entirely by the local youth, weaves together taste, culture, and life on the lake. Alongside the food stalls, various initiatives are featured each year:
The festival is also the perfect opportunity to visit Anguillara Sabazia, whose historic center climbs a promontory overlooking the water, offering some of the most photographed views of Lake Bracciano. Strolling through the alleys of the La Valle district, with the scent of freshly cooked fregnacci and the view of the lake, is an authentic way to experience the tradition of this corner of Lazio.
The 2026 edition of the Fregnaccio Festival has not yet been officially announced by the La Valle district. Based on tradition, the festival should return as usual in July, in the historic center of Anguillara Sabazia, on Lake Bracciano. Check back on this page for confirmed dates and the detailed program as soon as they are published.
Anguillara Sabazia is located about 30 km north of Rome, on the eastern side of Lake Bracciano. By car, it can be reached via the Via Braccianese or the Cassia bis; by train, take the FL3 regional line Rome-Viterbo (Anguillara station, connected to the center by local buses).
The festival takes place outdoors, mainly in Piazza del Lavatoio and the alleys of the La Valle district. Admission to the event is free; tastings at the various stalls are paid for on-site. It is advisable to arrive early and wear comfortable shoes for the uphill streets of the historic center.
