Free Flow Festival

An itinerant electroacoustic festival in the Bari region

The Free Flow Festival (or Free Flow Fest) is one of Puglia's longest-running experimental music events. Conceived and directed by musician Carlo Mascolo for the Muzic Plus association, the festival has a deeply itinerant nature: rather than focusing on a single location, it distributes its events across various municipalities in the Bari metropolitan area. For the 2026 14th edition, the tour includes Altamura, Binetto, Palo del Colle, Bari, and Monopoli, bringing electronic and electroacoustic music to even the smallest towns in the region.

The Binetto stop

In the 2026 calendar, the Municipality of Binetto, a small town in the Province of Bari, hosts one of the festival's key events. The evening is scheduled for June 5, 2026, at the Centro Civico on Via Piscinelle, starting in the early evening. It is a unique opportunity for a town of a few thousand inhabitants to host a cultural project that engages with the international improvisation scene in an intimate and informal setting.

The 2026 theme: "Electronic Thought²"

The 2026 edition is developed around the theme "Electronic Thought²" and the "Invisible Notes in Revolt" journey, a reflection on inner and outer conflicts and their transformation into artistic language. The festival pays tribute to the Apulian composer Domenico Guaccero and the pioneering origins of electronic music, involving professors from the Electronic Music Schools of the Bari and Matera Conservatories, such as Francesco Abbrescia and Giuseppe Salatino.

Program and artists

The festival's programming weaves together diverse genres and approaches: from the ethnotronica of the Bazar Magique duo to the "auditory cosmetics" of Lo Flopper, from the acoustic-electronic improvisation of Duo Duduk to the Mediterranean dub of Kerlox DB, and the sound spatialization of the Electric Flower Duo with Thomas Mondelli. International guests include Portuguese guitarist Nuno Rebelo and Brazilian clarinetist Luiz Rocha, who will also lead educational workshops accompanying the concerts.

The soul of the festival is Carlo Mascolo, a trumpeter and artistic director who views the event as a tool for cultural elevation and civic reflection through music. Thanks to the work of the Muzic Plus association, the Free Flow Festival continues to root an improvisational and experimental scene in Puglia that connects with the international circuit, bringing it out of major urban centers and into towns like Binetto.
