Live music and guided tours in the historic villages of Cesano and Isola Farnese

September in the Villages is a festival that combines live concerts with guided tours of the historic heritage of the villages in Municipio XV of Rome, within the Metropolitan City of Rome, in the heart of Lazio. Every September, the event brings life to two ancient hubs of the Roman countryside, Cesano and Isola Farnese, transforming squares, courtyards, and alleys into cozy and evocative listening venues.
The program spans two weekends across two distinct locations. In Cesano, between Piazza Caraffa and the Borgo di Sopra, and in Isola Farnese, at Piazza della Colonnetta, at the foot of the castle and the church of San Pancrazio. Each evening begins in the late afternoon with a free guided tour to discover the history of the villages: the castles, churches, marble bas-reliefs embedded in the walls, watchtowers, and small squares that tell centuries of history along the edges of the Via Cassia.
After the walk, the evening is dedicated to live music. The festival offers classical and chamber music concerts, featuring pieces from the great romantic and baroque repertoire, moments dedicated to educational masterpieces such as Peter and the Wolf and The Story of Babar, as well as jazz incursions with trios and vocal ensembles. A lineup designed for a wide audience, capable of introducing families and younger generations to classical music in an informal, open-air setting.
The event stems from the collaboration between Municipio XV, the Municipality of Rome, and local musical associations, and has been supported through grants for the city's cultural promotion. The goal is to enhance two often-overlooked villages, encouraging residents and visitors to experience public spaces through culture and restoring centrality to a historic and landscape heritage of great value.
September in the Villages is an invitation to slow down: no large stages or crowds, just human-scale evenings where music dialogues with ancient stone and the landscape of the countryside north of Rome. An ideal appointment for those seeking an authentic and lesser-known side of the Capital, where the cultural tradition of Lazio can be felt in the quiet of the villages.
The September in the Villages festival is expected to return in September 2026 to animate the historic villages of Cesano and Isola Farnese, in Rome's Municipio XV. Pending the official announcement, the usual format includes free guided tours of the villages followed by evening concerts of classical, chamber, and jazz music. Precise dates and the program will be updated as soon as they are released by the organizers.
