The Befanas take flight over Lake Orta

The Flying Befana Gathering is one of the most original Epiphany events in Piedmont. Every January 6th, the Adventure Park Lago d'Orta Le Pigne, nestled in the woods of Ameno (a district of the municipality of Orta San Giulio, in the province of Novara), transforms into a suspended stage where dozens of Befanas, both young and old, zip through the trees on the park's ziplines. This unusual and fun spectacle has captured the hearts of families and curious visitors from across the Cusio and Novara areas.

A tradition born in the Agogna Valley

Conceived by the Manzetti family, who manage the adventure park, the event has grown edition after edition to become a small winter classic on Lake Orta. The gathering is supported by the municipalities of the Agogna Valley—including Ameno, Armeno, Bolzano Novarese, Gozzano, Miasino, and Orta San Giulio—as well as the Province of Novara, highlighting its deep connection to the local territory.

What to expect during the day

The program blends adventure with folklore: the gathering of costumed Befanas, a hike to the famous giant bench located at the highest point of the park with an expansive view of the valley, zipline flights, and a contest awarding the most original and charming Befana. The afternoon concludes with a DJ set and a snack featuring hot chocolate, mulled wine, and panettone for all attendees.

A family-friendly event in the Cusio

Free and open to all, the Flying Befana Gathering is designed primarily for families with children, who can watch the aerial acrobatics and participate in the costume contest. The natural setting of the woods above Lake Orta, just a few kilometers from Orta San Giulio and the Island of San Giulio, makes the experience even more enchanting, combining the magic of Epiphany with the charm of one of Italy's most romantic lakes.
