The community festival of San Marco di Mereto di Tomba, entirely in the Friulian language
In the central Friulian plain, the small hamlet of San Marco di Mereto di Tomba, part of the municipality of Mereto di Tomba in the province of Udine, preserves one of the most authentic festivals in the region: the Fieste dal Paîs di San Marc. What makes it special is its very close connection to local culture, so much so that activities take place entirely in the Friulian language, a sign of an identity pride that is still alive and everyday here.
In mid-May, the hamlet comes alive for three days that focus on togetherness rather than grand spectacle. It begins on Friday with an aperitif and the "Serade dal Leon," a musical evening accompanied by sandwiches, hamburgers, platters, and chips. Saturday is dedicated to the little ones with "Pane e Farina di San Marco," featuring games, workshops, face painting, and balloons, and to walks immersed in the countryside: the "Cjaminade dai Fruts" for children and the "Cjaminade pai cjamps," a route of about 5.6 kilometers through the fields. Sunday is dedicated to sports, with women's cycling events and youth races.
The Fieste dal Paîs di San Marc is a true community festival, where the genuine atmosphere of the village matters more than special effects. It is the result of the commitment of volunteers and the participation of families, in a simple and welcoming atmosphere. The cuisine reflects this philosophy: unpretentious but sincere dishes, such as sandwiches, hamburgers, platters, and chips, designed for sharing and togetherness.
For those who want to discover the truest face of the Friulian plain, far from tourist events, the San Marco festival offers a precious experience: the opportunity to immerse oneself in the life of a small village that celebrates its identity, its language, and its connection to the land. A spring event with an ancient flavour and a warm welcome.
From May 15 to 17, 2026, San Marco di Mereto di Tomba celebrates its Fieste dal Paîs, a community festival lived entirely in the Friulian language. The program alternates aperitifs and musical evenings, workshops and games for children, walks through the fields, and cycling events.
