The Ferragosto fair in the Sannite village
In Pietrabbondante, a village in upper Molise in the province of Isernia, the Fiera di Santa Maria e San Rocco takes place on August 15th and 16th, combining two anniversaries: the Assumption of Mary (Santa Maria, on the 15th) and the feast of Saint Roch (on the 16th).
For two days, the town centre comes alive with the market and the fair's stalls, while religious celebrations mark the double anniversary. It's Ferragosto time in Pietrabbondante, when the village welcomes back emigrants and the many visitors connected to the town and its Sannite heritage.
Along with the fair for the patron saint San Vincenzo Ferreri (early August) and the Fiera della Madonna del Rosario (October), the Fiera di Santa Maria e San Rocco is part of the traditional fairs that mark Pietrabbondante's calendar, representing the peak of the Molise summer with faith, markets, and conviviality.
The 2026 edition of the Fiera di Santa Maria e San Rocco falls on August 15th and 16th, following the tradition that combines the anniversary of the Assumption with that of Saint Roch. For two days, the centre of Pietrabbondante hosts the fair with its market and stalls, accompanied by religious celebrations for the double feast.
