The Fiera di Santa Lucia is the traditional Christmas fair that, in mid-December, enlivens the historic centre of Pioltello, a municipality east of Milan in the Metropolitan City of Milan. It is one of the most cherished events in Pioltello's "Natale in Città" (Christmas in the City) calendar, organised by Pro Loco Pioltello Bello together with the municipal administration.
For one day, the streets and squares of the centre — from Piazza Giovanni XXIII to the surrounding streets — are filled with stalls and activities. It is a village festival with a Christmas theme, where craftsmanship meets entertainment and the festive atmosphere.
Stalls, performances, and farmers' market
The typical programme of the fair brings together markets of artisans and hobbyists, the farmers' market with agricultural tractors, an exhibition of vintage cars and motorcycles, street performances, and ancient wooden games for children. The heart of the animation is Santa Claus's House in Piazza Giovanni XXIII, where the Pro Loco's Santa Lucia Lottery draw also takes place, with prizes offered by local businesses.
The fair is free and is designed to be enjoyed as a family, as a stop during the Christmas period in the Milanese hinterland.
