A historic fair since 1785, featuring a market, ancient crafts, and tradition
The Fiera di Santa Caterina is the quintessential historic event of Gorgonzola, in the Martesana area, province of Milan. It was established in 1785 by Duke Gian Galeazzo Serbelloni to stimulate the town's economy through the trade of goods, grains, livestock, linen, and other products. Since then, it has been held uninterruptedly every year, on the Saturday and Sunday of the week of Saint Catherine of Alexandria (November 25th), the city's patron saint.
Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, the fair transformed: in the 1950s, it expanded its offerings to include local crafts and products, and in the 1980s, it achieved recognition as a regional fair. While its appearance changed, it retained the popular and commercial spirit of its origins, remaining a focal point for exhibitors and visitors from the entire Milan metropolitan area.
Today, the Fiera di Santa Caterina fills the historic center with stalls and market stands, exhibitions, artisans at work, demonstrations of ancient crafts and agricultural machinery, shows for children, falconry displays, a funfair, and sports competitions. It is a festival that blends commercial, cultural, and entertainment aspects, capable of attracting thousands of people.
The gastronomic section is unmissable, featuring dishes that have accompanied the fair for generations: tripe, pizzoccheri, gnocchi, street food, and, of course, Gorgonzola DOP, the blue-veined cheese that bears the town's name. The Fiera di Santa Caterina is thus, for Gorgonzola and the province of Milan, much more than a market: it is a collective ritual that connects past and present.
The 2026 edition of the Fiera di Santa Caterina is scheduled for Saturday, November 28th, and Sunday, November 29th, 2026, in the historic center of Gorgonzola (MI), during the weekend of the patron saint's feast day. The established format is confirmed: a large market, exhibitors, artisans, and ancient crafts, agricultural machinery, falconry displays, a funfair, entertainment for children, and traditional gastronomic specialties. The Municipality of Gorgonzola has issued the official call for operator participation, with applications due by the end of September 2026.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including schedules for shows and activities, will be published by the Municipality of Gorgonzola in the weeks leading up to the fair. Based on recent editions, the event typically includes:
Historic center of Gorgonzola (MI), accessible via Milan Metro Line M2 (Gorgonzola stop) and the SS11 state road.
Saturday and Sunday of the week of Saint Catherine's Day (November 25th).
Free admission. Applications for participation by vendors are submitted to the Municipality according to the terms of the annual call for applications.
